I tend to watch Craigslist for situations where I might be able to help as a rescue. I was scanning over the pet ads and saw one that made me actually pay attention. Free to good home, UKC/AKC am staff..champion bloodlines..a beautiful young dog of 9 months. Out of concern, I emailed the owner suggesting some thing to insure the pup found a good home. Warning her of the dangers of giving away a pit bull. She emailed back telling me she had gotten some pretty scary responses but she was in a bad situation. She ahd lost her house and this pup had been returned to her by her purchasers. I was honestly shocked a bit..this pup had excellent bloodlines and her purchasers had paid 1500 for her..and then returned her a few months later because they were "moving and couldnt keep her" ....how sad. We emailed a few tiems and then I tried to forget about that beautiful pup. I did not want to add a family member. But in one of our emails we had discovered we had a mutual friend. She ended up asking our mutual friend about me. And based on what my friend told her, she decided I was the perfect home for her dog. But I resisted..its against everything I believe in to get a dog from a breeder..but I have to admit..i was seriously lured by the fact that this dog came from a blodline I have drooled over for years. She kept calling and emailing..and told me I should just MEET her. I talked to my husband at length..and thought, and prayed..and thought some more. And finally..agreed to meet her. Then agreed to bring her home temporarily while i thought some more. Well..Cowgirl has been here since the beginning of September. And she isn't going anywhere. She is very much MY dog. She follows me everywhere. We spend every evening cuddling on the loveseat. She goes everywhere with me. Next month I will be having her tested to get her CGC and therapy dog title as she is perfect for it.
I didn't want her..but little did I know.... I needed her. And she needed me.
