Recipe from Ferret-3

Ingredients

1 can Sustacal (8 oz., or about 230 ml; it comes in a larger size too)

1 can of water (8 oz., or about 230 ml)

2 scoops puppy or kitten weaning formula--OPTIONAL

4 oz.(110 grams) dry kitten or ferret food, soaked in enough water to

cover and soften it completely (I also grind it first)

[ Sustcal is for humans look for it by baby formulas or in the phamacy section of your super market.

you can also use Ensure, Discover 2.0 or Just Born (puppy/kitten milk replacer).]

sometimes I add ferretone and or nutracal or ferretvite also

and if you have insulanomic ferrets i'm sure you can substitute diabetic ensure or sustacal

Procedure

Mix thoroughly.

We always nuke it for them to the temperature of baby formula. We try to serve about 4 fluid ounces at a time twice a day for maintainence; if your little guys eat to much and you feel the are getting fat, you can increase the amount of water. We have tried increasing the amount of dry food, but if it gets to thick some of them won't eat it. this formula freezes well -- the Sustacal must be used within 48 hours if only left in the fridge.

This formula was borrowed from F.A.C.T newsletter (paw prints)

(this is more for sick ferret some people also add chicken baby food gerbers 2nd stage works best.)

Recipe from BoopDiane

Here's a recipe I use. I have 5 ferrets with insulinoma. All six of my ferrets love my soup.

High protein quality ferret kibble & kitten kibble

3 jars - Stage 2 Chicken & Gravy Baby Food

3 jars - Stage 2 Turkey & Gravy Baby Food

1 jar - Stage 2 Turkey Rice Baby Food

LOW SODIUM Swanson Beef Broth

Ferretone

Water

Boil water for 10 minutes.

In LARGE bowl....Soak kibble in boiled water & broth until very soft.

Add ALL jars of baby food

Add Ferretone

Mix & stir well until well-blended

Place small amounts in blender and blend on high/liquify until smooth & creamy. Add some water if needed to make blending easier. Place in ice cube tray. Repeat until entire mixture has been blended and put into ice cube trays. Freeze.

After frozen, remove frozen cubes of soup and place in freezer bags and keep frozen. Remove cubes as needed.

Add small amount of water and microwave until warm. Serve. Sprikle small amount of ferretone on top if desired.

You can add Pedialyte to the soup for ill ferrets as needed.

This recipe makes about 155 cubes of soup and lasts about 3 1/2 weeks for my ferrets.

Recipe from Rose Red

This is my version of Duck Soup.

I call it Duck Soup plain and Simple, or the Basic Duck Soup

Ingredients: 2 cans of AD Science Diet Canine / Feline

2 jars Gerbers stage 2 Chicken or Turkey in gravy

1 cup kibble soaked until softened

2 jars (baby food jars) bottled water

Put the AD, Baby food, and kibble together in the blender, add one jar of water then blend.

Add second jar of water gradually untill you get the consistency (thickness-thiness) that you want. For those who don't have insulnomic Ferret's you can add a one inch worm of nutrical and some sustacal (SP)? You can also add ferrettone / linatone, or chicken stock.

Also for Ferret's with tummy troubles like my Joey, I add ferretzyme (a digestable enzyme) and it helps him digest his food. Ferretzyme also has probiotics in it so it helps with ulcers.
