Tough topic, but agree they do need serious help. Castration is possibly an extreme option although... if somebody was to rape a member of my family or even a friend, the guy best run and hide, cos I wouldnt need the courts making a hash of it, I`d cut his cock off anyway !!

I'm told (haven't seen the evidence) that stopping the ability to perform the act only redirects the abuse into aggression.

That said, I don't know the answer, as I've never seen any evidence to suggest that libido driven offences can be treated succesfully, at least without complete consent.

In theory, I suspect that a combination of DRO, (differential reinforcement of other behaviour,) some alarming schedules of reinforcement, and spectacular aversive conditioning might do the trick.

But would any ethical comittee ever consent to such a programme, or would it be affordable?

Sorry, think of 'a clockwork orange' but technical...

Right, rape isn't about sex, it's about power, so castration would not solve the problem.

Still quite fond of the idea of neuro surgery, with a blunt spoon, in some cases...

In my job I have come across to many sex offenders age rages 11 to 75 seriously.
nothing will cure them as they do not see it as an illness there actions for the vast majority of them is normal behaviour, this is shown by the lack of remorse when being interviewed, very few will carry the guilt that thier victims have to live with.
There are only two real options to protect the public
life locked away or
death penalty.
I know some reading this will say its society at fault and we should try to understand the poor unfortunate person.
my answer would be if you ever had to interview  a child or for that matter anyone sexually assaulted there is always a very distant look in thier eyes that remains with you every day of your life. it is not pleaseant !

Hi Tender Tips

Just to give you a little info on prison life, Inmates are given the chance to work or attend education. They are employed in Kitchen work, Hairdressers, Tailors shop, brickies yard or manufacturing sheds, the prison service tenders for contracts to supply Homebase, Band Q that sort of company, I would guess if you have shed or bench set in your garden the majority of them are made in the prison,
where ever they are employed they work towards a recognised qualification to assist on release. There are many avenues for them to take so time is not wasted, They get paid  a wage each week, I know of several inmates that have done degrees  with Open Uni while serving a sentence courses costing hundreds of pounds, al funded by you the tax payer. it is thier choice to work or do nothing.

I don't believe that getting castrated will resolve the problem, the wants and needs of serial rapists go deeper than the parts they have.  I don't condone this behaviour one bit, and know it is wrong.  I just think there should be a better solution to getting these people well.  I know if I were sitting on the other side of the fence, that I would want someone to advocate for me.....it's really a touchy subject isn't it.....

My thoughts are that you need to fix what is broken, not break what is functional.....I know it sounds cheeky....it's just how I feel...

xoxo Rose

I hear what a lot if you ladies are saying about the control and it not being sexual and I understand, but if he was castrated wouldnt that, with hormones and all sorts, actually change the person inside anyway? Just a thought.

I think castration for convicted sex offenders should be automatic.  It would stop them from hurting someone else, I mean, if someone was that perverted and this was the only way to stop them from commiting crimes then maybe it can help them in a way? Castrate them, might be the only way to actually secure a way of them not doing what they did before outside of prison.

Interesting point Caroll. I'm not sure. Are the chemicals that make them agressive and wanting control over women, dictated by the balls, or in the brain? If they were castrated would it change them? I think we need a medical opinion.
