Now what in the hell was going on? Mia thought. These boys were going to be the death of her yet. She was afraid to go outside. She should have known that the Barbie Q, as her brother called it, went off without a hitch, and way too quietly.
Now here she was alone with all these boys. Her brother's wife and the guy at whose house they were staying at had gone out to the corner store to get somethings. Now Mia really didn't want to go out but knew something was up.
As she stepped around the house and off the porch and looked up, not knowing why she looked up but did, she saw her older brother, standing on the outside of the balcony ready to jump. Oh not jump to the ground, oh no that's way to ordianary for him. She knew this without even knowing what he planned.
"Do I want to know?" Mia asked loud enough for everyone to hear her. All heads turned her way, then looked downward.
"Mia. What are you doing out here? Thought you were going to read?" Mike, said. Mia closed her eyes and shook her head. He knew he was going to get her ire up and he was deliberately baiting her.
"Tell me what you think you're doing?" she said using her most stern voice. She was used of no one taking her serious cause of her height so she knew how to make people sit up and take notice other ways and she never backed down when she had a point to make.
Mike pointed to a guy in the crowd and said, "He dared me to jump from here to a tree." Mia closed her eyes again. This boy/man was gonna be the death of her for sure. They were all up here this summer cause Mike had broken his arm this summer and was working in a supervisory capacity only.
"Don't do it Mikey. You'll regret it." Mia said in an infuriatlingly condescending voice. Like a know it all, Mike thought. Before she could say anything else he jumped. Mia squealed a bit, then just stood there looking relieved that he had made it. Now she thought was the time.
Mia stood there, with a look of satisfaction on her face, and a knowing grin. Mike looked down at her from the tree then and asked, "What are you so smug about?"
Before she could answer, Ken, the man who owned the house, and D, Mike's wife came in the yard. D walked right over to Mia and asked her what the hell was going on. She looked up and saw Mike in the tree and waited patiently for Mia to explain. At the end of the explination the two women laughed and stood there with their arms folded across their chests.
"What?" Mike demanded.
"Care to tell me how you plan to get down?" Mia shot at him. D adn Mia high fived each other. Oh yeah they did. They smiled at all the little boys standing around and Mike in the tree, wiggled their fingers and went into the house.
