Bread Dumplings

4 oz diced stale bread
1 teaspoon butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup flour
2 teaspoon chopped parsley

Salt and pepper

Heat the butter and fry the bread lightly in it. Mix the egg and the
milk together. Put the fried bread into a large bowl and pour the egg
mixture over it. Add the flour, parsley and salt and pepper to the
bread and set aside for 30 minutes. Roll the dough into 12 small balls.

Bring broth to boiling and drop dumplings in. Simmer for 15 minutes.

You can also cook the dumplings in boiling salted water if desired.

Grandma's Homemade Dumplings

Just like Grandma used to make! Savory mounds of dough to top

bubbling stew or soup.

1-1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 TB parsley flakes, if desired

2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

3 TB shortening

3/4 cup milk

Mix flour, parsley, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in shortening,

using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture looks like fine

crumbs.

Stir in milk.

Drop dough by 10 spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew or

soup

(do not drop directly into liquid).

Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes longer.

Makes 10 dumplings.
