Well I have been on methadone since 2000. I recently switched to a new clinic because I moved. This was in July 2002. Well when I transfered I made it clear that I needed to be on medical coupon payment vs. cash. I came from a private pay cash only clinic that was killing my pocketbook and it was just too far to commute. Well when I got on this horrid public clinic they ended up saying that whoever told me that I could pay with coupons was wrong and that I would have to pay $330 a month until further notice. There is a supposed sliding scale which I guess really doesn't exist because in my case it sure didn't apply. So I ended up switching from a great private clinic paying $270 a month to a horriable public clinic paying $330. Right now I am in the process of trying to get a transfer to yet another clinic that has openings and accepts coupons. All clinics here in Seattle accept coupons except the one private clinic. The thing is they only accept so many coupon paying clients at a time. This is just a total headache that I am so sick of. I plan to start detoxing slowly once I get on a clinic that I can stay on. I am clean, have no dirty's for the past year and yet this is the story. I have recently quit dancing full time and I am trying to clean up my life including what I did for a living. This is almost impossiable when fee's are so high and staff lie about letting a person on a program with the intention of using coupons only to be told once they transfer that they must pay cash. I live alone, go to school, etc etc. I have told them my situation, how I am trying to get out of the adult entertainment industry and could I please be put on a sliding scale. But no. I am so sick of this crap. My question is how does the methadone system work in Canada? Is they only clinic dispensed methadone or is it true that private doctors can prescribe as well? I'm to the point where driving two hours to Vancover once a month would be totally ideal. Any info would help. Thanks~TK~
I'm writing you from Vancouver, and although I've never been on methadone as far as I know most doctors can write a script, and many (but not all) pharmacies will fill it. Commercial drive is a good place to look, or try the Blood Alley Clinic in the downtown eastside. You may have a hard time trying to get carries though cause most people I know have to pick it up daily for a long time first. Contact Vandu - Vancouver Drug Users Association- they are pretty much legit and will give you straight info. without moralizing.
In Canada how it works is were I am in Penticton Bc I found a methadone Dr who was willing to see me. I applied for methadone and that was through my dr they arranged that all together. I go to a place called Pathways addiction services I have a councelor there and any medical addiction centre should help you indeed. The way it is done here is I halfto urinate then daily pick ups then Now I am on this tue witnessed wed carry thur carry fri carry winessed on sat again it is hard. The pharmacy in my town does't do methadone. The pharmacy has to have ther liscence as well as the dr perscribing methadone. I dont know if I answered you but thats how it works here. I have a methadone and hes my family dr also. any how take care and hang in there, recovery friend Tina
