DUH, I feel real stupid. I just realized I didn't show the posts i was referring to. They were replies from Sha and Green2thecore. I'm still learning. Anywho... i am a recovering heroin addict with the help of a GODSEND called methadone. Yes, GODSEND. I asked GOD to help me beat the H and he got me to methadone. It saved me. I am 39, have 3 kids. (20,19,15) I am a manager in fast food. Until 11-10-04 I smoked cigarettes, but not anymore. It kinda pisses me off though cuz the meth and not smoking have made me put on sssooo much weight.(to the point of discomfort and pain) I do good things for myself and get bad results. Ok, i'll get off the pity pot now. Thanks for listening. |

Hi Reesie, Ya know, since I've been on methadone I've gained a bunch of weight too. I know people say that methadone does NOT cause weight gain, but I truly think it does. Each time I got on it I gained a lot of wieght. I didn't eat any differant or do less activity. Then, each time I got off methadone I lost the weight. So it must slow down some peoples matabolism or something. But the thing is, Resse, is that being overwieght is not good, but it's better than being hooked on heroin and ciggys, right?! So CONGRATULATIONS for doing so good! Was it very hard quitting ciggerettes? (I know, STUPID question!) I mean HOW did you quit? I need to do the same. luv, sue |

You won't believe this cuz I still don't but it WASN'T hard to quit smoking this time. I'm still in shock that I did it, and cold turkey no less. I said a prayer and asked GOD to help me quit and when i would crave one asked him to take it away. I'm not real religious but am a believer especially now. My b/f tried quitting too but hasn't got there yet. I was mad at him at first but realized a person just has to be ready or they won't be successful. Good luck to you and i'll say a prayer for you too. |

Reesie, Im thrilled that you are still not
smoking. Thats awesome.
I have finally decided I must quit, shit, cant go
back to the heart doc until i do, lol. So I have enlisted me and my two
girlfriends, our quit date in Nov, 1st.
I will try asking god to take the cravings away,
Wish me luck, Love Karen |

Hey Lovingmom, Glad to hear someone else is quitting smoking with you. I think that will make it easier. But, even if they fail you can do it. I used to make excuses for relapses and try to blame others. I had a counselor that told me, "your recovery is YOUR responsibility, not anyone elses." I had to realize no matter what went on around me that the final decision was mine and the same with ciggys. I go to quit smoking boards too and that has been a tremendous help too. As much as this one has been with heroin. I will pray for you too, and keep me informed how it's going. |

Hello and Welcome.... I have been on Methadone for 19 months now. I too was up pretty high == in the 140 range=== Now, I hit 65 Mgs and am dropping 3-5 per week. Like you I want to eventually manage my addiction without the Clinic....but I will go as long as I have to. I am a 28 y/o female from PA. I was just curious what u are experiencing with your weening- I realize I am going a little faster than you. See, I have occasionally experience some sweats; chills; and a ton of headaches. I was curious if you too were experiencing any symptoms (Or anyone in the group) I just feel it is easier when you know what to expect. I do know they say your receptors in the brain actually are like 2 weeks behind ---so it takes awhile for the body to adjust. Any feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CLEANSERENE 77 |

How ya doin? I just joined the group too. I'm 44 years old and have been on methadone for 26 years. I've been clean from all the other drugs for the last 3 years. I'm also coming down 5mg. a month. I've detoxed before but I was always using other shit(xanax, crack). When you're still using other drugs you can't detox successfully. I finally had enough of all that crap and am back in college.I'm down to 105mg. from 140mg. So far I'm not feeling any withdrawal at all but I don't expect to until I get down to 30 or 40mg. Even though I only go into the clinic twice a week I'm still so fucking tired of this stuff. I've spent 2/3 of my life on methadone. If you've only been on it for 3 years try to get off it as soon as possible so you don't wind up like me.By the way I'm in Philadelphia, Pa. Get back to me from time to time and let me know how your detox is going. Ira N. |

Sadd: From Canada as well, welcome to the site, it's a great place to get advice. It's great that you are withdrawing, take your time. listen to your body, it can tell you best and more then any doctor. I too have been (yes past tense) on methadone. Withdrew a few times, and this time I took my time, and did not let any doctor tell me how and when to withdraw because It was me addicted NOT the doctor. You are taking control of your body, mind and life, All the power to you and give yourself a pat on the back you deserve the credit you are changing yourself for the better Take care, Leo |

Friendly: Wow another one coming off the methadone, when you get to 30 or 40 mg (I have faith you will) take it slow even if you have to go down 1 mg at a time, I'm so happy for you. Congrats. I was there too at one time had been on methadon at 140 mg and am no longer on. Wishing you well. Leo |

Hi i'm also new to the game even though i've been on methadone for 6 yrs and was on the heroin beforehand for 3 yrs- I'm 38 yrs and truth be known i'm terrified i'll never get off it. It's taken me 5 yrs to cut myself down from 60 ml to 30 ml and some days even more. I dont miss the gear, it nearly lost me my 2 kids who are now 19 and 12 yrs. I cant afford a detox 5 programme as just left university but i wont stop trying. Good luck and well done your brave for coming this far take care Susanne(snue) |

Hello from a fellow Canadian, friend. I also did the methadone trip for the last 3 years of active addiction. I have been off since Aug 1st....almost a year now.
I am happy to see you are coming to realize (I assume) that juice is just a fancy way of continuing to be wired.
Don't get me wrong, it was a necessary evil for me and in all reality it probably saved my life, but it was still the same old same old....
I too was on 125mg. I went from that to 80 to 60 to 40 within a matter of weeks. At forty I went down 5mg a week. Way too fast! Stick with your current formula. It was a cake-walk until I hit 25-30mg., but in retrospect, when I went lower, it was unnecessarily brutal.
Bit of friendly advice....when you get down to 10mg, go down 1 mg a week.
I hope you get carries so you can control your own habit to some degree. Nothing worse than having some dyed-in-the-wool bureaucrat Doctor telling a junkie how to kick.
Good luck, friend. And keep up the hard work. If you can pull off kicking meth, you can pull off anything! Salam.
