Hi Beth, Yes, im on subutex which is the same thing as suboxene without the naloxene in it.
I suffered severe chronic pain in my back and left leg that started a year after Gino died.
I went a year back and forth suffering severe pain until my family doctor referred me to a pain clinic.
I went to the pain clinic and also saw a surgeon who finally after several procudures realized i had spinal stenosis. At that time i was on oxys for pain.
Part of my spine was compressing on my sciatic nerve so badly that my leg ached, my foot would go numb and i would trip over my foot.
After surgery all of my leg pain went away but i suffered nerve pain and also residual pain from 3 herniated disks i had in my back.
I was put on morphine after surgery because i had built up a tolerance to oxys.
Not once did the doctor recomend that i go down on the morphine, or switch it.
when i would tell him about my pain he would up it, again and again
The pain doc kept prescibing me drugs, doing nerve blocks, doing rhiztomy's , and had steriod injections in my back.
He kept insisting i would be on pain meds for life and to get use to it.
I had every side effect possible and was always dragging ass I was SO tired.
Everytime i would question him about my pain meds he would get pissed and threaten to kick me out of this pain clinic.
He knew what he was doing, I was dependant on morphine, he knew i wasnt going anywhere.
Just before i left his clinic i was on 180mgs a day of morphine and it was doing nothing for my pain,I was in pain 24/.7 and the doctor said to up it again because i built up a tolerance to it, I said NO, i want to wean off, and the pain doc
finally agreed to start weaning me off.
I think part of the problem is as soon as i had a reduction in pain meds my pain would increase and then i would end up taking more medicine.
I got so discouraged so my therapist suggested i go see Dr. Haines, a doctor who knows alot about suboxene.
Most doctors had a 8 hr training class on the drug before they could prescibe it, Dr, Haines was prescribing it in London before it was approved in the US.
I told him my situation and he thought i would do well to go off the morphine with the help of suboxen.
The naloxene in the suboxen made me sicker then a dog but it didnt happen until i was on it for a couple of week, so i had to be swithed to subutex.
Its been WONDERFUL, i have NO complaints at all on it.
I had to be in full withdrawl to go on suboxen and i was SO sick.
Within 30 mins of taking my first dose of suboxen i felt human again, lol.
I got stable on 16mgs which i stayed on for a couple of months.
Right now im weaning down 1mg a week and doing very good with the drop.
Im now down to 6mgs, YEAH..
A few more weeks and i will be off.
The suboxen doctor is a pain doc too so he said there is LOTs of meds i can try for pain if need be.
The subutex controlls my pain incredibly well.
I know with methadone you have to be down to 30mgs to jump over to suboxen, your already below that so you should be able to switch over.
There are a few really good websites.
One is suboxen.com i think.
I dont have my computer right now, its in the shop so i dont have acess to any files.
That website also has a chat room where you can talk to other people on suboxen..
I wish you all the luck in the world, Love Karen
