Ah, the fall...yeah I love it too.  I feel lucky to live in a geographic location here in the midwest that does get the full effect of each of the four seasons and this is by far my favorite one.   Coming after the brutal heat of summer, I find the crisp cool weather of fall to be really energizing.  Although it has been years since I was in school, the fall to me represents a sense of new beginnings.   Being blessed to care for freee's boy Aaron, who is an 8th grader in a K-8 grade school, I have been reminded of all the promise held in the start of a new school year.  Empty fresh spiral notebooks, sharpened pencils, an as-yet-unbattered new backpack...  The story of this school year will be written as he lives it, each day unfolding with challenges and tests that reach far beyond academics.  He has the power, through his choices and responses, to determine what 'flavor' the year will hold even though life may deliver to him events and circumstances he may not have chosen.  This kid has lost so much to the disease of addiction even though he has never yet used a drug except in utero.   And I am blown away by his resilience and the ways he looks at the universe and the sense he has made to himself about the meaning of his mom's life (and death) and his dad's life (and death) and the way he shoulders the responsibility in creating his own destiny.   I guess I must correct myself: this fall I AM IN SCHOOL!!!! Aaron is one helluva teacher huh?   his mom's spirit shines so sweetly through him while his own unique personality comes across so clearly.
Well this category on the boards is called Odds and Ends....and that's what this ramble is: odd, and time now to end!!!
lol, Shannon
