The Ultimate High

DEath metal pounds in my head
As I lay and shiver in a sweat soaked bed
I can reminesse on days that have passed
The best thing about life is that it never lasts
I stare out the glass and wonder why
The sun became silent and the birds only cry
If tomorrow happens to make it my way
I will hope beyond hope that it is my last day
Heroin has severed all hope from my being
Denial has raped me from clearly seeing
As I lay and ponder if life's really fair
Slap my vein and inject more dispair
Wish like a child that this is the end
Pull out the syringe to die next to my friend
Enter into the ultimate high
Fade to black - forget to cry

LabRat,
Thanks for the poems. I really love these. I read them and oftentimes remember those feelings. Although I sometimes feel them now I realize they are just feelings and that they will pass. . . not that it's easy! You are a very talented writer and I thank you for sharing with all of us.

This is so beautiful and so sad and so true. You're such a talented writer. This poem amazes me. You even got it to rhyme! It's hard to relay ideas in rhyme, especially ones as complicated as addiction.
