US uses drug money to fund Black Ops?

Before 2000 Afghanistan was the worlds highest producer of Opium
(which is used to make herorin; among other things),
it is beleived to have contributed to 70% of the worlds opium; thats a huge chunk...

However after 2000 the Taliban government in power at that time,
put a stop to it, stopped growing it made it completely illegal -
everything was hunky dory (in relation to that anyway)...

Then the US came in destroyed that system of government and appointed a "democratically" elected president of Afghanistan...
Guess what, all of a sudden they are producing 70% of the worlds Opium again...

Now to me that seems WAY suss, and its no secret that the Black Ops of today
are not funded directly from the Pentagon,
they get their money through... lets say, "other means"...
That way there is little to no paper-trail that can be traced to government officials...

What are peoples opinion??

Hey Ex- can't say if drug money directly funds US black ops at the moment, but there's an awful long history of that being the case so it sure wouldn't surprise me if it continued. Noriega in Panama, Colombia, Iran/Contra, those all involved if not direct use of drug money, at the very least looking the other way as groups we wanted to work with got their $$ thru sales of drugs.

Afghanistan has pretty much broken down into a narco-state now. It's estimated by our own gov't that close to 80 percent of the country's revenue now comes from opium. The warlords have so much power the gov't can't shut it down, nor does it really want to because it would mean the collapse of the economy (or whatever economy exists).

As Bush and co. brag about democracy in Afghanistan, the only reason the US hand-picked president (Karzai) has been able to remain in power is thru cutting deals with the warlords since Karzai controls only a very small part of the country and has to rely on regional warlords to keep the rest of the country under control. And that means he has to overlook they ways they make their money- through opium.

So, IMO, you're right on target, Ex.
