I"ve been on methadone for about 3yrs now. My dose has ranged from 98 mgs to 51 mgs and thats where I am now. I am tired of battling all the side effects, weight gain, constipation, lack of energy, not to mention the cost!!! The clinic I'm on is really pretty good for the most part. But they don't have a very solid detox program put together. They offer tremendous support to stay on and take your money but not to get off. I guess I have a resentment building over that. By the way, I have had close to 10 years clean at one point in my life, so I'm hoping that I will be able to do it again! Anyway, does any one have ideas on the best amount to detox per week?? And once off altogether is it still difficult to sleep and function even if you missed the real hard withdrawals??? What ever advice you can give for success I would greatly appreciate. I have zero support system as I tend to be abit of a loner when it comes to my personal problems and revealing them. Thanks for for your time. |

Just a note about constipation,I'm using 360MG'S.with (NO) constipation.Try Miralax it's an R/x but I'm sure any DR will write for it.It takes two to three days for it to really start working, then as long as use it.every night before bedtime all is well.If I were trying to get clean at your dose I would do 1 mg. a week.Sounds like it would take for ever yet at the end of the year you will be done.
Will you help me with something? Will you post a note to me at [email protected], then at:[email protected] Just got a new email address, want to try it out. IHS:Bruce W... |

I have detoxed only twice off meth alltho have been on it dozens of times and the way forward is to reduce as slowly as possible i.e from 50mgs drop maybe 5 a week till you get to 20 then 3 a week till 10 then 1 a week- i did exactly that and had no ill effects -just a little weary -I went in to detrox once and reduced from 70 -0 in 2 weeks and was o.k as well but it was an inpatient programme so all day was taken up with groups, counselling etc so didnt have time to think-i am sure that alot of it is in the head-if you are told something will happen you expect it to happen........ |

Hi! I just joined this group and feel a little funny about giving advice, but here goes anyway. After a four year 8-15 bag a day iv dope habit, I went on a meth program. I started at about 70, peaked at 100. My third year on meth, I had left my husband, found a good job, and decided I had enough of meth. I told my clinic I wanted to start on 5 mg decreases every two weeks. I had to fight for that, them telling me that it was too much. I assured them I would let them know if it was. Finally it started, with me at 80 mg. Took a bit of time, but when I reached 20 mg, I did something sneaky. I stopped paying my fee. The policy at this clinic was they could not kick you out of the program without a 30 day detox time. For the first two weeks I went down every day, sometimes every other day, one or two mgs until it was gone. Honestly, I cannot say painless, but almost. I really didn't have the hideous insomnia I had suffered kicking dope, and the six months it took was a great time frame. Even though I started using again, it's more than a year since I left meth. I am now two weeks clean, and I did it cold. (Sucked, but I just couldn't do meth again.) Hope anything I said helps out, and good luck.

Hey,Try dropping your dose 10mg a week, drink lots of water exercise, and I will pray for you.Methadone is hard to kick, but if you get it out of your system quicker.you are more likely to succeed. |

Blake, I have to respectively
disagree with your theory of tapering off of methadone, Yes it stays in the body
longer and that is why it works as good as it does. It isn't nec. harder to come
off it just takes more time and planning to do it and if done right with the
proper attitude it can be done almost painless but the trick isn't getting off
of methadone, it's staying off of illicit drugs and the successful rate for
those that try the abstinence approach have not been too successful but that
doesn't mean that this person won't succeed. But the key is slowly and I mean
slowly and the rec. drop in dose is 1-2mg a week now maybe if you are on a high
dose you may go 5 mg a week but 2mg is ideal and the best method. Speeding it up
doesn't get it out of your system any faster it just shocks your system by
dropping too quickly. This has been scientifically studied by the top docs and
researchers in the field. You can go to www.methadone.org and there is a ton of well
documented info. Thanks for listening.
