i cannot belive the so called "doctor" would not do anything for your boyfriend....did they at least give you any advice a referral of some sort....mabey an antiemetic or a musclerelaxant even quinine for chrissakes???????????
heres the deal....its the worst thing anyone can feel because they know that one shot would make them feel like a million bucks. i have had somepretty bad flus in my life, where i really wanted to die, and thats what it feels like, but with the added hell of mental and psychological torture mixes in.
the good part is ,its almost over for him, like you said by wed. it will be alot better. then comes the hardest part....which is trying to stay clean. good luck to you both, and tell your man that the hospitals are very ignorant when it comes to addicition.....even though its a legitimate disease, they treat it quite the opposite. we are parasites to them.
i am a reg. nurse, and the discrimination and bad mouthing and just complete lack of empathy for addicts made me want to never go back.

help4him: My name on the board is shdblegl, but its really Michele. Listen, I know this is my first real post and you dont know me at all, but I've got a 15 year run with heroin, now 7 years on meth, but clean from heroin (except maybe once every 6 months if someone freaking offers it to my face which as a rule most peole know NOT to do) the point is I know whats going on and would like to try to help. You didn't say how bad his habit was but since he is on his 5th day and is still hurting pretty badly, just to be safe Im going to assume its a bundle a day. Nice round number! (worse can only get better) Now as any "good junkie" knows, the whole concept of kicking cold being over in 3-5 day is bullshit. It can take 2 weeks before you even begin to get the energy to take a shower. BUT.. As lifeoverkill23 said, he is on his 5th day, the worst of it is either hitting him now or its about to start to subside. Regardless, once again, I dont know where your from, Im from the Bronx so Im giving you advice from a city girl but it really doesnt matter. We manage to find the drugs no matter where we are if we want them. If he has no blood pressure issues and that is very important, if he has NONE, you want to find him Ellivl. You probably know what this is but just in case it is a cheap pill sold around meth clincs because people who drink and like to get high and sloppy buy these pills and get wasted. IT will put him asleep. That is the key. Forget aout trying to find the perticular drugs to kill the perticular ailment, like bone crushing. I have been there. Uneless of course you have a pill connection. IF you do, get soma. They are muscle relaxants, and they are not controlled. You need a script but most docs will write for it. IF you cant get them, or any other pain killers, keep him asleep. The pill Ellevil will knock him out. He will have a hell of a hangover but as long as he is drowsy and not feeling the pain, who cares. Another non conrtrolled pill that pople are being prescribed a lot that will help is Ambian. For some reason most men as apposed to women feel this pill and it puts most men out. THe idea is too make him sleep. So, get to your local meth clinic, find the people with the non conttroled pills and get a few Ellevil. He will sleep through the rest of the withdrwal. IF worst comes to worse, and he is very sick come two days from now, even tomorow, maybe its worth copping a bag, have him do it, than get him back to the detox as his now dirty and they are supposed to take him but make sure they have a bed before you bring him down. KEEP HIM ALSEEP!!!!!! Good luck, I feel your pain and let me know how it went. michele |

i have just been through this! the advice i am going to give is kind of sneaky, but hell....anything is worth a try. if he has a primary care physician (or you....) a drug that they are usually willing to give for, um, "anxiety" is clonazepam (klonopin). this will ease the anxiety part of the w/d, which, believe it or not, helps a LOT with the aches and pains. another one is trazadone (deseryl). this will help with sleeping. i told my doctor flat out that NO detox place was ready to take me and i've been forced to do it on my own. he broke down and gave me the trazadone which is a help.
good luck.

As with all of the above people, I have also been thru what your b/f is going thru right now and I feel for him and for you- having to watch it.
If he's on his fifth day, the worst should be about over and he will begin to feel better physically in a day or at most 2. If you can't get any of the pill the others have suggested, just give him the support you can. The bad physical part is almost done.
But we junkies forget so easily. As soon as we start to feel better, we're ready to use again. I guess I should speak for myself, but I've seen it with so many people that I think it a fair generalization.
So he's got to get some kind of help in STAYING clean. Cause believe it or not, that's going to be harder than getting clean.
Good luck and I hope he's already feeling a bit better by now.

Thank you very much to all who offered advice and well wishes. The pain and anxiety was horrible by Monday night. He could barely breath let alone lay still for more than 15 seconds. I decided that enough was enough and called another two Detox places early Tuesday morning. One recommended two more hospitals and to go through the ER. We tried Morristown Memorial and finally someone was willing to help. The doctor was wonderfully helpful and prescribed two drugs, Catapres and Trazodone. As soon as he took them he felt instant relief. He's very tired and still aches but he can finally SLEEP! He's now in the process of finding a counsellor and getting into a program. In his words, "This drug is evil!" Again, thank you so much. My heart goes out to all of you and best wishes! I'm sure that I will be contacting you again for future advice. Be well! |

That is such great news. Catapres and trazodone- that doc knew exactly what he was doing, count your blessings that you found him. I feel so relieved for you b/f (and for you). It'll get better now, day by day.
But the real fight has just begun. It's great that you're looking into getting a counselor and into some sort of program. It's almost impossible to deal with disease on your own.
I truly with the best for both of you. I'd love to hear that he is one of the success stories.

Hi help4him, Hopefully by now your guy is in a better place physical wise, head wise and help wise. I found a link to some places in Jersey, you said Morristtown so I hope it's the right state. Maybe they'll be helpful. |
