This lady was given a d-day for talking to customers--too much, I guess, I haven't spoken to her.
She has begged for 3 or 4  days a week, but keeps getting 40 hours.
She's fiesty.
There are younger assoc's who are desperate for more hours, and yet they force this lady to work 40.
In the case of the other greeter who couldn't use the Gemini, who wandered off and took overly long breaks, he was not able to do the job to meet the standards of the store.
In her case, this lady may just be too old, too fiesty, and too sharp.  I wish there was someting I could do for her.

Our greeters do the same thing. We have one greeter who just sits there and yells at the people to come back to her when the door goes off,Most times she just sits there (all our greeters sit) and chats with people ignoring the door. They do nothing to them.

Nope , our greeters do NOTHING but sit. They may nod at customers. Some do speak ,but very little.Their hand held for scanning items in at the door sits in their cart that they have sitting right by their side.Stockman or CSMs are responsible for their carts. They will get on the walkie and call for carts but thats it.

I talked to this lady, the next time she worked.  She told me that she was given a d-day because she spoke with 2 customers who had a complaint   She also told me that she has spoken with a lawyer.
That was over a week ago, as I have been on vacation; so I'll update you tomorrow.

Our greeters all stand up.  They are not supposed to mess with the shopping carts.  Customers get grumpy about it, but Oh Well.

Our greeters (when we have them) are not allowed to sit...UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.  LS

My friend worked her last day today.  She decided to quit, rather than try to fight the BS.
She said that the couple that she talked to, before she was given a d-day for talking to her "friends;" came in again today.  They told her that they had decided to keep shopping at our store, because she had been so nice to them.
I am ashamed to be affiliated with a store and a company that uses such tactics to reduce their payroll expenses.
It hurts my heart to think about it.

We have another feisty older people greeter who is pissed off about being told she's not doing her job right.
Friday the mgr over the front end walked up to her and said "I've been told that you're leaving your post too much."  I don't know if that's true.  Of course, she says it isn't.  This asst mgr is not tactful  anyway, but it makes me wonder if they're trying to cook something up on this greeter too.  We have another greeter who is in motorized wheelchair, and this older greeter told me she "never does anything"--sends people to the other entrance to have their return labels made.
We were having 2 greeters per door, when they first added the label thing.  Now I usually see just one.
Glad I'm not a people greeter.

My store gives our elderly greeters a hard time too.  If a greeter is checking a receipt for large items  other customers will just walk on out the door even if they have large items or even if the alarm goes off.   During the busiest part of our day in the evenings there is only one greeter at each door.  We have 2 or 3 greeters that will only work in the mornings.  Some mornings we have 2 or 3 greeters at each door.  I think being a greeter is one of the hardest jobs at my store.  When my son was little he loved the greeters at my old store.  He had to see Harry every time he went in.  Harry always said hi to him and had a smiley face sticker for him.   With all of the additional responsabitly the greeters have now it has become too hard for some of our more elderly greeters.  Our store is hiring younger greeters now too.

We have hired some younger greeters too recently. It is a hard job, especially if there is only one to watch both doors. that's impossible to do, no matter what your age is.

Yes, it is a hard job--not a lot of fun anymore.
Maybe someday W*M will be sued for channeling older people into such a low-paying, thankless job.  And, rightfully so.
Now they're being squeezed out, because they're too expensive to insure.

my greeters are 80+
most have an ada that they can sit at their station.
the worst part is trying to wake them up when the customer has a return.

the customers are irate most of the time because it takes them so long to use the gemini for the return items.
personally, I couldn't do the job.  When I do step in for breaks and such, I always think of that commercial with the greeter having coffee with the gingerbread man.
It makes me giggle and can easily call out "over the blaring shield fans"
"welcome to walmart"  with a grin.

As the greeter is sleeping or distracted,  the store's inventory is skipping right out the door in front of them.
televisions, computers, not so sure that they couldn't roll out an entire pallet full of merchandise right past them.

I'm guessing that one of the reasons why they started the new return process, is to discourage folks from returning so much.  I have no problem with that.  If a person gets irritated while waiting for their labels, myabe it's because they're trying to rip us off.  Some people will always get annoyed, no matter how simple it is.  My policy is, that if you're in a rush at a large store, you are asking for trouble.  My husband gets antsy waiting in line, so he often goes to wait in the car.  That makes both of our waits more tolerable!
