Tell us more! I can't imagine how this would be better than the way we already do it--not knowing what they would be doing.
I'll check with our Directs folks tomorrow. I'm assuming you mean the GM Directs.

Mad, this is a totally new job description; the daytime Directs folks will still be checking in Vendors the same  regular hours they are working right now, noone is loosing their job or anything like that.

Vendors can sign up for this program if they  wish to have their product checked in earlier, processing starts at 2:00am.

Perhaps it is just being tested right now, I don't know.  I do think it will be interesting to see how it turns out though.  For those vendors that do try it, it can give them a four hour head start on their day, they no longer have to wait until 6:00am.

Oh, I might add this is DSD vendors (Soda, Snacks etc).  At our store, however, the milk vendor has signed up, as has Frito Lay and a few others---cannot remember them all.  I am sure this person will be checking in the Meat, Dairy and Frozen trucks too.  Just my thoughts on the matter.  lol.

OK, I understand it better now. I can see how some of the vendors would like to come in earlier--not me, of course! It would be a good job for somebody. That would make it easier on the folks who come in at 5; assuming they still come in at 5.
I'll ask my co-mgr if this is something we will try.

How will this interfere with unloading trucks ?  Our Directs area is right in the same area as the docks.... heard nothing of this as of yet... been on vacation so I have no clue.  Should be interesting though.

I have a good friend, who is the DSD mgr at our store.  She said that this is a program that's being tested in some stores.  She said if we adopt it, she will have to work from 2am to 11am.
Because her epilepsy is not controlled well enough, she can't drive a car.  She rides a bike to and from work.  A few times a week, she gets a ride home from someone, so that she can attend Dr's appts and buy groceries.  Switching over to those new hours will cramp her life a lot.  She already has trouble with not having a lot of friends that she can talk to.  I hope we don't do it!
I told her to get the Reclamations guy fired, so that she can take his job--assuming it will still run from 8 to 5.  Of course, that was only a joke.  Maybe she can maneuver him into another position.  He applied for GM Directs, but didn't get it; probably because he does such a good job in Grocery.  Darn.  Maybe he'll get run over by a Frito-Lay truck, and have to retire....
JUST KIDDING!!

oba, the vendors are supposed to be checking in from 2:00am on (though I have been told I can check them in before if they are there) and I am assuming most unloaders work 4:00pm to 1:00am, so the two shouldn't interfer with one another.  Our DSD receiving is on the other side of the store from the unloading dock, so that shouldn't pose a problem with ours.  My hours are 12:00 midnight till 9:00am, and I must admit, I love that soooooooooooo much better than 10:00pm until 7:00am.  I abhor that shift, lol.  I am really excited about this new program, it should make the sales floor so much more shopable for the customers and also much fuller earlier.  As for the lady working 2:00am until 11:00am, she had better check to see if she gets a midnight diff on that one, there is a cut-off there somewhere; I will still get the diff, though I really don't care about it----that is borrowed money, something I won't take with me if I leave the job, so I don't bank on it much.

The Reclamations job is a higher pay grade than  the Grocery Recieving mgr's job is.  I think that's stupid.
Anyway, getting an extra dollar an hour has no appeal to my buddy.  She has multiple, severe medical problems that make it hard for her to get enough rest, as it is.  She also does a lot better, emotionally, when she has a lot of contact with friends.  Because of her medical problems, she's safer working during the day, when there's more people to keep an eye on her.

Why does she have to take it, Mad---are they making her?  With me on midnights, we have a total of 5 DSD, (4 day, and me at night) and also the Reclamation clerk who works 7am to 4pm, or 6am to 3pm, I can't remember.  lol.

I have worked this job three days and I can feel hostility in the air, I think they are actually afraid I am replacing them, this is not going to happen, lol.  The whole idea is getting the vendors in and out and have them Off the floor during shopping hours (preferrably before 700am).  Our Lays vendor alone is usually stocking almost 4 to 5 hours every morning, wow, they have a day for sure by the time they are done with just our store.

Oh, maybe she doesn't know that it would be an additonal position.  Or maybe at my store, it wouldn't be another postion.  Will have to see what happens.
