We have adopted a Greyhound mix and are hoping to adopt a Catahoula Leopard dog (not sure if she's purebred) next week. I think the Greyhound mix may have pitbull in him, and he is very sweet. They say Greyhounds are couch potatoes, and he definitely fits that description. These dogs are collected from animal shelters that call to let the rescue group know if they have dogs that are about to be put to sleep. I couldn't do either job. I decided to go for dogs, instead of cats, because my track record with litterboxes is not good. These dogs are crate trained, housebroken, micro chipped, fixed and have some basic training. We gave them a $200 tax-deductible donation for each dog. We had another dog for a day, but he seemed too aggressive for us. They will keep trying to find us another dog, until we get one that fits. Otherwise, we'll get our second check back--I hope that doesn't happen! Mad |

Hopefully this dog will work out for you Mad. You will have to post pictures I like dogs too. I know I could not work in an animal shelter either. I would have a house full of pets. I would be the same way at a pet store too. |

My husband I adopted our dog, a husky mix (?) almost 4 years ago and we love her! She ran the streets of a small town near here until they caught her and we took her home. We really would like another dog, but she is very aggressive towards other animals. Male, female doesn't matter. She loves kids, which is good because our neighborhood is full of them. She even (and I swear!) attacks the tv when animals are on it. We spray her with a spray bottle, but she just goes right back up and goes for the tv again. She's a little crazy! If anyone has ideas to deal with her aggressiveness, please let me know! I'd try just about anything. |

Start watching The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan (National Geographic channel). I have recently bought one of his books, and I'm learning some of his techniques. One thing he talks a lot about is the "energy" you project when you're with your dog. I can tell how much better Smokey is when I walk him, compared to when my husband walks him. I can let the leash be slack, and he keeps it very tight; which means Smokey is choking himself. He has had a lot of dogs, and is not receptive to input from a "cat person." I had dogs for most of my life, but he only knew me with cats, when we met. Mad |

We decided to give up on having 2 dogs. The Leopard dog turned out to be too stubborn for me to tame, and I realized that it would strain our marriage too much to try to manage 2 dogs. The Leopard dog was sweet, but she had no time for a mere mortal, trying to tell her what to do. I thought I was pretty good with dogs, but this one acted like I wasn't there. I have trained Smokey to stay out of the kitchen, but the Leopard dog seemed to think it was a contest to see who could outlast the other one. I saw/felt very little eye-contact with her, and that was eerie. Never thought about eye contact with a dog before, but I noticed it wasn't there with her. So,we're all very happy with each other. It's good to have a dog again. Mad |

To say I love animals is putting it mildly! I can't imagine a home without out one. Or two. Or three! LOL |
