Last night I had a new associate start in my dept.  I mentioned to another dept. manager that I was going to stay a bit later to help introduce the dept to the new associate.  She said why do that when my associate would be here.. let her train her.  I said that I thought it was a good idea, but her associate has enough to do in her own dept. let alone helping a new associate.
I went to my store manager and asked him if it would be okay for me to say a few hours to help my new assoicate... I said to him that I wanted to be the one to train her as we both know that some associates have bad habits...he just chuckled.

So, while on the sales floor... I made a comment to my associate that "Some people have bad habits, and I rather you learn what I expect from you and you can develop your own habits".  I did mention the associate that works in the next dept. that she has enough to do and it wasn't fair for her to come over to my dept.

Well.... this morning as I was doing a mod... the associate made a special trip into the store to confront me...and she came over to my dept. with her dept. manager and pretty much ripped me a new butt hole on the sales floor.
She said that she didn't even walk into the store last night when another closing associate told her that I said..... "(associates name) has bad habits".  I was a bit dumbfounded and I told her that wasn't true.  I don't even know her.. but I know enough that she is a hard worker.  Well she insisted that I said this.  Her dept. manager didn't say a word... I guess she was there as a witness. She also said that if I have a problem with her that I am to take it up with her supervisor... and she kept on ranting... I told this associate that I did say "SOME associates have bad habits" and didn't mention any names.  So I am assuming that the person who apparently heard me say this... took what I was saying out of content, took pieces of the conversation and told this associate.  I did mention this associates name during my conversation with my new associate, but only that this associate has enough to do in her own dept.
I was so pissed that I went to the store manager and asked for an open door.  We talked briefly and I said to him... did I sound like I was insinuating that this associate had bad habits? He told me no, but the associate went to him and told him this is what she was told.
Now, I didn't ask her who told her this which I should have but I guess I was just a bit surprised.  Store manager said that he was going to talk to this associate and find out who told her this information.

I just wanted to quit today... I asked the store manager why people don't like me so much ?  I do my job, do what I am told.  He said to me that others have complained to him about me... I guess because I usually don't go to other depts. to help out when needed.  He said that he told these other dept. managers that I have a high shrink dept. and if they were in this dept. they would be treated the same way.
One of the CSM's said that... quite a few of the dept. managers are jealous of me... I asked why ??? She said
1. You do you job and your dept. shows that
2. You are good at what you do so instead of learning from you they complain about you
3. You get what you want and some are threathed by you...

Okay enough of my rant....
Thanks for reading....

I guess you just continue to do your job.  As long as the store manager and your assistant like the job you are doing don't worry about it.  Work is not a popularity contest.  It is good because you know what needs to be done you know how to do it and management does not have to check on you all the time to make sure you are working.

I hope by now, you're feeling OK.  It is frustrating to be accused of things you didn't do--nobody will believe that you didn't say those things.
It was probably wrong of that mgr to say that other assoc's have said things to him about you.  EVERYONE has things said about them to mgmt.  It's up to mgmt to balance that, with what they see you do.  I was interviewed for a transfer one time, and the store mgr said he was told that I had problems with mgmt.  I told that sometimes I did, but no more than anyone else.  He seemed impressed by that!
Stick to your guns.  We love you!

Awe  thanks Mad.... no I am not actually feeling better about this..... I don't know why I am so surprised but I am.  Maybe I should just start to really suck at what I do and slack off... let my outs get out of control and just pretend I am working..lol
I really wanted to quit, but I think that is what some of the people I work with really want.  Then they won't look so bad.  I am no one special... just have a lot of experience in retail and had a great teacher to teach me merchandising.
The store manager and I have a good working relationship and I have been told once before from management that some of the other dept. managers have been complaining about me.. so its not new news to me.  I know I should just laugh it off, but sometimes that is hard to do.
Oh well.... at this point the weekend is almost over and I will probably just forget it come Monday.  I will just have to wait and see what happens.
