Well, at the three stores I have worked at the long-term associates have been treated pretty much like royalty, to a fault actually.  Noone else has a snowball's chance in Hell of advancing, even if you have years of experience in a department they have never been in.  The Department Managers just keep 'switching' around in the departments they want (forget about Career Preference---what a joke anyway, lol).  There are very few that will ever get a job over a 20 year associate, except for the rare Assistant Manager stepping down and wanting a department.  So, I truely feel sorry for those that are mistreated, as I know it does happen......but not at the stores I have been in.  It is a good thing though, that they are treated well, because one day if I live long enough, I may be a 20 year associate!
