Raking Happiness
Remaining leaves of red, orange and gold
Things of beauty wonders to behold
Try as I might the words come hard
While leaning on the rake in the yard
Memories flood my mind
Of the childhood joys left behind
Of raking the leaves into a huge pile
Of diving headlong my face wreathed in a smile
Laughter bubbling up from deep in our bellies
As we jumped again and again into the leaves
When they scattered with the wind
We would just rake them into piles again
I wonder what the kids on the block would say
If they saw this old lady begin to play
With a whoop and a laugh I'm on my way
Now who says this old lady is too old to play
Happy as a clam I raked happiness today!
