The old Gypsy man sat against the wheel
In shadow of a caravan
Picking up his fiddle did he feel
A sense of tune and played the Gypsy man
Haunting, slow, sweet music filled time
Eyes closed in pleasure
Gypsy violin wandered memorys' rhyme
Each note scored out treasure
Faster now was the hand that played
Tune as ever taking speed
The air was filled with sound that stayed
Gypsy player urged in need
Played by ear, learned from age of yore
Hand plied a fast-driven bow
Foot-tapping sound telling old gypsy lore
And soft in firelight glow
The sound of fiddle music carried nigh
Gypsy girl by water stood
She gazed back up against darkning sky
Gathering up the bundled wood
Horse whinneyed sofly as she passed by
Steadily climed the hill
She smiled gently as moon rose to sky
And Gypsy man played music still
Hand on violin now slow, caressed the tune
Estate simply horse and van
And Gypsy girl, hair etched against moon
Smiled softly did the Tinker Man.
