Wind-whipped prarie burned faces raw,
As Dream Maiden watched the party ride.
Commanche braves painted up for war,
And stood the Maiden, held in pride.
Distant rode the tribes young brave,
Into battles' hell with vain-glorious cries.
Then prayed did Maiden for no grave,
To be the young warriors lesser prize.
O, Great Spirit, you of earth and sky,
Give this battle to such valliant men,
Arms up in prayer, O, hear my cries.
Give them victory and back home again.
Night blackened dark as Maiden stood,
In silent vigile as dogs sniffed the night.
Wives huddled to weep, feared they blood
Of Commanche braves lost to the fight.
Dream Maiden faced the silver moon,
Tears flowed silent as her senses knew,
Though some ride back in triumph soon
Bold Eagle would be one those few
To fall in battle as the bones foretold,
The mighty chief would never return.
Even though Dream Maiden did scold
Warrior's pride did ever fiercely burn.
O, Great Spirit, great eternal soul,
Let not the bones just once, for me,
Be wrong, let life be Eagle's goal
And I give you my life for enternity.
Morn drew the Sun in golden globe.
Hands shielded eyes as up went shout,
Shivered did maiden beneath her robe
Up went proud head as she stepped out.
Nearer they rode, arms raised to sky,
In victorious salute as dust was raised.
Eyes count the men as some start to cry,
While others whoop, songs be praised.
Dream watched them come, head upheld,
Braves rode by and no word was said.
None need tell Dream of Eagle felled.
Thier downcast eyes told her instead.
Wander to river, did Maiden stand,
O, Great Spirit, now listen to plan.
I come here to put my life in your hand,
To leave this earth and be with my man!
