I started using it to get whiter teeth but for no particular reason, I stopped.  I just forget, that's all.  I haven't used it for cleaning surfaces or glass but I have used it to soak my toothbrush.  There are many uses for natural products ... I'm finding that the more natural and cheap the product, the better it is.  Try looking into baking soda, apple cider vinegar and olive oil.  There are books written about this stuff.  I also use rubbing alcohol to clean glass and formica tops (for example, at the office).
