I'm all for it! As a nonsmoker, I hate to go into a pub or other public venue where there is no oxygen readily available. lol It is awful, as Tigs said, to go out with clean clothes and freshly bathed, only to have to come back and go through the whole process again because I now reek of cigarette smoke. I am not against smokers as I am married to one and I came from a family of smokers, but I cannot breathe in all that smoke and I don't like to eat surrounded by smoke, either, nor do I like to smell of cigarette smoke. As Tigs stated, it will be nice to go into a smokefree environment and enjoy myself without all the passive smoking. |

I think its a good idea in General must be awful for anyone who doesnt smoke to be in a smokey invironment but as a smoker it really pees me off that smokers are victimised !! I myself rarely drink but when i go out to a pub/bar/restaurant it really knocks me sick when you get the smell of alcohol on your clothes and people breath their rancid breath all over you and does anyone object to that ?? noooooooo !! especially the morning after if someone has been out drinking the night before that really turns my stomach but nothing is ever said about that and am sure that cant be healthy either. |

HELLO YVETTE, well to tell you the truth I do not like anyone smoking because I lost my Brian {husband] through it, I worry for there health, also I saw enough through nursing,I begged Brian to give it up so did the doctors they told him one was to many, he smoked under 10 a day, When he was told he had so long to live he just looked at me I will never forget his look, and he told our son's please son's never smoke I wish I listened to your mam.He lived two weeks 59yrs old,my son's and I thought at that time our lives were finshed without Brian, but time heals a little but we still cry for him today,my youngest became a father he broke is heart because is dad was not there to see his lovely Granddaughter Katie Brianana, the second name after his dad [Brian]. So Yvette now you know how I feel about it. I know it is hard to give it up and I feel sorry for them, but it is lovely to hear those words I GIVE UP SMOKING TODAY luv Kathy |

I know this is an old thread but just joined and thought Id have my two cents! I'm a non smoker (though used to smoke from ages 11 -14) and I just lurve the smokin ban!! I've lost several people to lung cancer, all heavy smokers and I saw its about time. Yes, i agree that over weight people (myself inc) and drinkers cost the NHS a lot of money, but they do it to themselves. There is no such thing as passive fatness (thank god, or just looking at that chocolate cake wouldn't be healthy!!!) or passive drinking! (unless you count the alcohol smell on someones breath!) Its great to go somewhere and not come back stinking of smoke, and up here (Scotland) bars and cafes etc havent been too badly affected. Sharon xxxxxxxxxx |

We know da risks an yes we,well me an adult will smoke. Smokers r always put down by nons but we r da ones who pay for ur healthcare as well. |

Sorry Griff not meant to say u do put down smokers and sorry 4 ur loss, there are worse things besides smoking that kills there is; 1. Drugs - p 2. cancer if u not smoke There are so many old diseases that are coming back that were cured an now dotors find them rearing there ugly heads. such as Tuberculosis. Smokers like me will give up when WE decide to and in New Zealand all Pubs an Bars etc are Smokefree. So in the end Non-smokers win,we lose. |

As someone who smoked since she was 12...( gave it up about 3 years ago)...made my son quit with me...( well ot make him) it was his decision to quit if I did, which was my incentive)... I see new smoking bans all the time around me and although I believe it is a good thing, I also am more concerned about that truck that just engulfed my car with his exhaust fumes...and the factory that I smell across town. |

I thought i'd add to this thread although its a bit old as i developed lung cancer when i was pregnant with my youngest daughter Emily. I had never smoked but developed a testicular cancer in my right lung and was given 2 days to live. I spent a year have really gruesome chemotherapy and operations and wouldnt ever want myself or any of my family to have to go through that. I welcome the ban and love been able to sit in places without having to passive smoke or come home smelling of cigarettes when i don't smoke. Emily was born 10 weeks early as a result of my cancer and both of us nearly died. Cancer does have far reaching effects! |
