The problem is that the imports are coming from American companies who relocated overseas.
I suggest that every time you see something with a former US manufacturer's name on it, you go on line, look up that company, and contact them. Tell them you won't be buying anything else from them until the labels say "made in the USA" as opposed to made in China, Bangladesh, Costa Rica or wherever the labels say now.
I did this with Hanes and with Fruit of the Loom and, lo and behold, there are actually made in USA labels on some of those items again.
In addition, every time you shop at a major retailer, you are invited to take a survey by going on line to their website. Take the survey and when you are asekd to comment, make the suggestion that you would be more willing to shop with that retailer if more of their shelf items were made in the USA. Remind them that the substituted imports may be initially cheaper in price but they are also cheaper in quality, making them more expensive in the long run.
Keep pounding away at them and stop buying anything you don't absolutely have to have. In addition, if you are forced to buy something cheap and it breaks, take it back. They will get the message after awhile if enough people keep after them.
