I came across the website of Vaclav Klaus of the Czech Republic.  Why can't we get someone this intelligent through our primaries?

Here are some of his speeches - selected because the topic I was researching was the political motivations of global warming alarmists ...

The Threats to Liberty in the 21 st CenturyVáclav Klaus, Speech on the occassion of receiving the Adam Smith Award, Foundation for Economic Education, New York, May 6, 2006

Freedom, not climate, is at riskVáclav Klaus, Financial Times, 14 June 2007

Questions and Answers: Freedom, not climate, is at riskVáclav Klaus answers a selection of questions he received from the Financial Times readers in reaction to his article published in FT on 14 June 2007.

Czech Republic: President Says Freedoms Endangered, Not Climate

Notes for the speech of the President of the Czech Republic at the UN Climate Change ConferenceVáclav Klaus, Climate Change Conference, United Nations, New York, September 24th, 2007

The Other Side of Global Warming AlarmismVáclav Klaus, Chatham House, London, 7 November 2007

I wish I could vote for this guy for our President!

Is it your son or daughter going to ASU? Professor Prescott teaches there right? Is this how you learned of the Czech candidate?

Funny how influence can make the world so small if this is the case.

Didn't read it all just yet though.

Thanx!

Estonia is supposedly ripe with thoughts of liberty as well, or so I've heard.

Interestingly enough, my son is a 2005 graduate of Arizona State University, with degrees in physics and psychology.  He's now attending graduate school at New York University, going for a Ph. D. in neuroscience ...

I don't know ...

No - a co-worker directed me to an old World Net Daily article on the March 19th speech to Congress, and I got interested in what Klaus had to say.  Since any links to WND are dismissed as "biased" on the forums, I did an internet search on Klaus and found that website of all of his speeches - which can't be attacked as "biased", as it is the root source of anything he presents.

The problems with central planning are fresh in the minds of many of those living in newly free nations.  It isn't surprising that they would be able to see with clarity things that those who take freedom for granted are unable to see.

I agree with Klaus - the environmentalist alarmists are using a valid issue (after all, who wants a polluted planet?) as one way to achieve the extreme power of a central worldwide authority.

It is a case of massive manipulation for sure. And they try and attach urgency to it so nobody will actually think it out.

Some of you may be surprised that I consider my living in communism a comparative advantage, and not a disadvantage. It was, definitely, not an advantage as regards my personal happiness or my material well-being but I do believe it helped me to understand what liberty really means and is about. To use an analogy, you do not understand health when you are healthy. To take liberty for granted is similarly dangerous. Not to have it for such a long time, and it was a long time, has made our eyes sharper, and our sensitivity to its endangering greater.

I have often wondered if we would appreciate our freedom more if we really had to earn it. We take it for granted that it will be there just like the sun every morning when we get up. It scares me that some morning I will wake up to the realization it's all gone.
Bob
