IS he better or is he worse???? Yes to both, hie breathing is okay, the fever is gone, the appitite has returned...BUT heis now swollen from jowels to chest really swollen. My guts are just in knots not really knowing what is wrong with him.His eyes are brighta nd he is eating no runny nose at all but he is so swollen that it scares me.I spent 2 hours tonight wrapping his neck im warm clothes and then brushing him and brushing him some more.I know he still don't feel good he lays his head against me and sighs,I almost cry when he does this .This is worse then you child being sick they can at least tell you where it hurts.i am iwthout a vet until 8 am tomorrow when Dr Jeff's fill in will be at the clinic.I spoke with him today and he is is no more sure then i what it is ,but like me pretty sure what it isn't.Boy is that why he charged me so much for the meds LOL.Anyw ays he has left the other vet detailed instuction to out house if need be and says that if the sweeling has not gone down by morning to bring him or have her come out.I really hope it is down as I hate having another vet out here as I know Jeff and really like his work and how he works.any way I am done whinning for now. Hopefully the new ones didn't bring something in with them.......Are their shots all up to date? Keeping my fingers crossed for you and Jag....... |

Well we are sure that its not strangles that is one thing we are sure of ,ther is a spoosiblity that he may have a foz tail lodged in his throat and that is causing the swelling. It is so very wiat and I see I just got back from the barn and he was giving bean the gears which is a good signAlex is heading out to get him anothre big tub of or 2 of grass .I do plan on claling the vet today but first I am calling my trusty neighbour Steve and if I have to give up my milleniun bottle of Crown Royal I guees i have to.But Steve is horseman from way back so get his opinion first before i get this other Vet out here. The rest of teh head I have been checking twice daily and no signs of any of them being sick at all or showing any of the initial syptoms.Which were fever, rapid breathing, throat tenderness and lose of apitite as well as being lethagric. If this was strangles then he woudl not be eating his nose woudl be running and he woudl not be so bright eyed. His syptoms are very confusing and thats what makes this all so hard.Today he trotted up to the fence to say hello and when Beaner approached he pinned her is ears ,That is a good sign.So I am praying and praying some more that he pulls through soon and doesn't start to lose weight(which he hasn't yet) Jag is Steves horse and though it is very hard on me I can see for him it is a whole bunch harder. He feels even more lost then i do and finaly after 4 yrs he can ride HIS horse.I hate to watch him hurt as well and sometimes he thinks I can pull tricks out of the bag and make it all go away and be better NOW.But this time i can't no quick fixes today. But hopefully I will have better news this afternoon. Well the thoat today is a bit swollen but still on the tender side.Have been hot clothing him twice daily and still no abcess or much for heat(for what little bit is there).Steve was talking(or shoudl I say golfing) with a guy he used to work with and he has a horse with very similar symptoms as Jag though not as bad.Glad to know he isn't the only horse.I am going to talk to Dr.Jeff about scoping him jut to see if anything is in there cause i think if there was we woudl have something by now.I am still a bit worried about that fat that it is still tender to touch about mid neck. But he is out eating grass with teh girls and being his wonderful miserable self again so thats good and he is workingteh pounds off Bean.He gets bored and works bean LMAO.Brodie gets a bit peeved but he don't him and is helping bean lose weight . |

Witchy was wondering if your horse is having a reaction to a new fungus that has estabilshed its self in north america. it has been running rampant here on the island lots of animals have developed similar symptoms, turns into a respitory infection , one lama even died from it..... so may be run this by your vet...... can't find the article with the name of this fungus.. will post it when I come across it today tho... (House cleaning day, today oh fun!) |

Well Jag is much better, teh swelling is all gone but his throat is still on the tender side.I was talking to someother horse ppl who have had similar problems with thier horses one guy has has his whole heard come down with it to varying degrees. Some not as bad but others a lot worse. His vet knows what it NOT but has no idea what it is.He had teh vet do blood work and everything to find out what it could be but nothing so far.Jag is pretty lucky compared to this guys horses.I guy that steve used to wrok with has a horse with it as well though it was not as bad as Jag was. Many ppl feel its from the dry dusty conditions.I am going to talk with Vet today to see what I can give him for allergies and see if that helps.I knwo my hay fever is really actingup this year and I only get icky when teh lilacs bloom and there is a lot of them. But here we have one small busha nd it didn't bother meat all last year so I think its aover load of pollen that has his troat sore.
