Well Kim you have definitely come up with a topic that gets my dander up. If I am reading this correctly the vets will be the ones to decide wether I should have an Equine Dentist come in to do my horses teeth or wether it should be left to them to do; or if an equine massage therapist or equine chiropractor should be called in. Well I don't think so I am the one who pays the bills for my horses not them and after what I went thru with my tb with his teeth last year I will never trust a vet to float a horses teeth properly again. My old vet told me his teeth were fine and then he started losing weight and flinging his head around a lot so I had an equine dentist come in and he couldn't believe the amount of work that had to be done in his mouth. I ended up having to have both the dentist and the vet in and poor Frasier had to get 2 shots of strong tranq and we thought possibly a third because he was so stressed. The equine dentist was the cheapest of the two. All this because the vet was either too lazy or too busy to spend the proper amount of time on him. According to the equine dentist Frasier hadn't been floated properly in a long time. You should have seen the length of the canines on him.
I also have an equine massage therapist and equine chiro work on him on a regular basis to keep him supple and loose and if it was up to the vets they would have him written off an unrideable. He is only 15yo and still has lots of showing and pleasure riding time left in him if the proper care is taken. I don't know about the rest of you but I need adjusting more often now that I am getting older why wouldn't our horses. But unfortunately the vets are just like the human doctors and don't like it when someone tries to cut into their turf even if there aren't enough of them around to take care of all of the horses properly.
Well that is my piece I won't continue there isn't enough time for me to go on. Suffice to say I will fight this to the bitter end as I am the one who will decide who gets called in for what issue pertaining to my horses not the person who gets paid.
