Well I went out and worked Cat last night for the first time in almost a month and what a good girl she was.
I haven't been out there much this past month between putting in all kinds of hours trying to drum up new business to no avail I might ad; plus the fact that I just can't stand being around that two faced owner/barn manager. Well just 30 more days and we are out of there (thank god).
Anyway when I got there I called her from 2 paddocks away and she ran right over to the gate for me. (This is a definite positive as she is still a baby and we haven't spent a lot of time together one on one since I purchased her last Sept. She has spent most of her time with Rachel the trainer) Then I took her inside and gave her a real good grooming (my daughter has been grooming her whenever she goes out to ride Frasier) managed to pull a good 2 to 3 inches off the length of her mane before she started saying enough is enough (still needs more length pulled but didn't want to push my luck with her patience). Took her into arena to lunge her for a bit and she was really good. Wasn't five minutes into lunging on both sides before she was willingly dropping her head down. Only used the bridle on her as I haven't had the saddle on her in almost a month so wanted to re-introduce everything back to her slowly. Don't want to undo any of the good work Rachel had done with her up to this point. Only lunged her for about 10 or 15 mins. both sides as she hasn't worked in a while so slowly build the work load back up again.
Once I get her moved to my coach's barn the end of the month I will start introducing side reins to her. Rachel did a little work with one side rein on her before I moved her to this barn but hasn't had any since she went there which was May of this year.
One thing is for sure Rachel has always said that Cat has a very good work ethic and that holds true but it was nice to see that she would willingly go back to work with no fuss after not doing anything for so long.
The one thing I didn't like when I brought her in though was it looks like she has gone thru another growth spurt. You have to realize I am only 5'3" and am used to riding a 15.3hh horse (for you non-horsey people that is about average size). When I last sticked her in March she had already hit 16.2hh and is probably 16.3hh now. That is a long way to drop. Will stick her again when I get her to Michele's. She has definitely filled out though. Plus her stride is just wicked and without even asking for a lengthened stride. Boy when we get in the ring and ask for extended trot if we don't get at least 9's for a score I will want to know why.
Took some new pics of both her and Frasier so once I get them developed will post for everyone to see.
