~ Meditation ~

Learning to use Visualization to Further your Path.

The word meditation comes from the Latin meditatio , meaning to think or reflect upon, to contemplate, to revolve in one's mind. Ah, the key word here...the mind! All of this is something that has to do with the mind and the mental state. Yes, meditation is a state of mind!" This is the key to understanding meditation and consequently the key to understanding its effectiveness in bringing about change in the physical universe...including change in our bodies.

Meditation in the broadest of its definitions "works" because of one simple law: the immutable law of Cause and Effect.

In meditation a state of mind is achieved. The processes involved by various forms of meditation may appear different, but they all involve one final moving factor: the creative power of thought. In this final recognition, the order of Cause and Effect is acknowledged and the power of that fact is then evidenced in changes we evoke in the physical realm.

Meditation is just one of the inklings of recognition of the final form of the '90's buzzword, "mind/body connection." Cause and Effect are linked and the direction of causality flows from the mental or implicate universe to the physical or explicate universe. To deny that is to forever remain a victim in a malevolent/benevolent universe. To acknowledge that direction of flow is to accept at once responsibility and the wonderful power of change that goes with it.

Meditation has been known through the centuries in many forms. Prayer, chanting, contemplating a flame or navel, war chants, mantras, hypnosis, song and sound, visualization, body movement or non-movement, hooking up to electronic "bio-feedback" devices, breath control; all of these are just a brief listing of the ways mankind has used ritual to quiet the racket of the conscious, intellectual part of the mind and allow thought to do its perfect work. Many of the above-mentioned forms of meditation have become specialized in ritual but not in the basic understanding that Cause and Effect go in one direction only. Mind to body, never the other way around.

Meditation itself, or in specialized formats such as hypnosis, bio-feedback, autogenics and others, is known to relieve stress, lower blood pressure, relieve pain, reverse the effects of devastating diseases, alleviate diabetes, sinus problems, sexual dysfunction, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, warts, allergies, reduce anxiety, eliminate insomnia and on. Put simply in the quote of Dr. Deepak Chopra in his best seller Quantum Healing, "There is nothing in the mental universe that does not leave tracks in the physical." In other words, everything in our life is affected by what we think, and most especially on the very subtle levels of the subconscious or deeper mind, the part accessed easily by meditational states of various forms.

In this forum, we will be learning the power of visualization and how to focus on intent. This is the beginning of manipulating energy levels and turning thoughtforms into our reality. Magick happens when we learn to meditate to create change.

This course is very much a hands-on experience in learning to relax and focus your mind to see what your higher self has to let you know about.

In this course, you will learn about yourself at the same time you are teaching yourself the magick of meditation and how to focus on intent. This is so valuable in all ritual and magcik. As it is the beginning of magick .

Meditation is an important tool in Magick so it is important to be able to train your self to be able to visualize. This course will help you to accomplish this very thing as you learn to concentrate and focus on a single thought. You will practice on learning to tune out the mundane sounds around you as you focus on the intent of the mediation.

Students will be required to participate in a daily ritual & meditation practice, and keep a journal of their experiences.

 Course Requirements:

Approx. One hour per session..and lesson should be repeated until the student is comfortable with the mediation, journaling each experience directly after the meditation. Then the student will write to the instructor to report their experience and what they learned about themselves.

It is good to know some of the types of meditation as we go through this course. Think about the kind you are experiencing and keep that in mind as you go through each meditation of this course.

TYPES OF MEDITATION

Mindfulness Meditation

Focusing on body awareness, (especially breathing); observing your thoughts; observing the environment. Being fully present in the moment to what is, with no judgment, simply observing and moving on. Becoming aware of your thoughts gives you power to direct, to focus and to choose them consciously.

Focused Meditation

Directing the thoughts in a specific way. Example: focusing on a spiritual principle such as gratitude and then directing all of the thoughts toward gratitude.

Visualization is an example of a focused meditation—creating specific and desirable mental pictures of oneself with a specific positive outcome. Example: mentally seeing oneself successfully delivering a speech.

Affirmations are another example of focused meditation. When doing an inner affirmation, the self-talk includes the use of "I am", is stated in the affirmative, using the present tense. Affirmations are the "support language" of a focused meditation and a great supplement to visualization. Example: "I am a great public speaker."

Guided Meditation

Facilitator guides the student on a specific journey with a specific purpose, such as a journey to a peaceful place or guidance regarding a specific issue, such as overcoming a particular addiction.

Transcendental Meditation?/STRONG>

A very simple, natural, effortless practice of meditation which is practiced for 20 minutes twice a day. Eliminates stress and opens the awareness to the infinite reservoir of energy, creativity and intelligence that lies deep within each one of us. A practice which and can raise the life of every individual to full dignity, in which problems are absent and perfect health, happiness and a rapid pace of progress are the natural features of life.

Transformational Meditation?/EM>

Solution-based meditation. Type of guided meditation where the student targets a specific problem area (character defect) and the facilitator guides the student through the process of resolution during the meditation. Facilitates a dialog between the Higher Power and the false self, utilizing "conscious contact" to transform the problem. State of the art Spiritual Technology.

Prayerful Meditation

Awakens your consciousness so you can be open to Higher Purpose, knowing the divine plan and purpose for your life, and seeing your next relevant step in carrying it out. Enables you to receive clear guidance from your Higher Power. Taps into inner guidance, Divine Will, and the power to carry it out. Recognizing the Inner Voice, new thoughts and the feeling of Higher Truth. Enables you to form clear thoughts of what actions to take. As you practice this "conscious contact," you can learn to trust and act upon this guidance.

What Meditation Is

Meditation is a state of mind. An emotional, mental, and physical state reached through exercise that allows you to concentrate and focus to a point where there is only one thought or even no thought. The feelings achieved during meditation varies from each person but it is generally expressed as a feeling of wholeness and connectivity and a feeling of complete disconectivity at the same time. To experience any type or level of meditation it takes practice.

Your mind is always working - always thinking and always doing. It performs necessary bodily functions automatically but what happens when you just try to stop thinking? All sorts of things flood into your mind in bits and pieces. The same way your mind works during sleep. Sorting out the days details, working out and solving problems, remembering and storing information, completing thoughts from earlier in the day, reviewing what you have seen and heard. All these things are garbage cluttering the mind and prohibit successful meditation.

But meditation does something that sleep will not. It stills the mind, even if only momentarily, at various points during the meditation and at different levels of meditation. Meditation can allow you to clean up and take care of the garbage. Allowing the mind to rest and to be still during meditation lets the mind express and release anger, stress, and thoughts that have accumulated. In a relaxed state the mind is able to accomplish much more that we normally do. It has been proven that we only actively use a very small amount of our brain - between 8-12% - and that people with brain traumas, where part of the brain has been damaged, can in some instances re-route the activity through other parts of the brain. This is what meditation can help us do, re-route thought patterns and use more of the brain to achieve higher goals physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Drugs and Alcohol Interfere

When we do drugs or alcohol we are altering the physical being and effecting the function of the brain. Alcohol slows down the connection between the brain and body. It slows the brain function the same way sleep deprivation does. The brain has to have time to work and finish processes but it also needs to relax and be cleaned which meditation can do and drugs can not. Consciously we assume because we are stoned or mellow or drunk that we are giving the brain time to relax and not think - but in fact all we are doing is removing the conscience connection we have with the brain. We just think we are allowing the mind to relax because we can’t connect while intoxicated. Additionally, drugs and alcohol do not offer a lasting result like meditation can. Meditation also does not come with the lows or hangovers. Meditation provides a much better alternative to coping with stress than drugs or alcohol. We do many things to cope with stress that does not work well enough or is actually harmful.

Meditation & Stress

Stress effects each person differently. Some people can have a crazy work schedule and do not feel the least bit stressed from it and then walk into the house and see that their new puppy chewed up a slipper and explode - other people would not be able to handle work but could easily cope with the torn up slipper, the area rug in shreds, the kids yelling and dinner being late. We all allow different things to stress us out. See you allow stress, stress is never caused by the person or situation. Stress is only caused by you. Part of the reason we feel stress is because of the clutter in our mind - things pile up. All that garbage in the mind doesn't allow for clear thought processing and thusly we become stressed.

Every day little things happen that we often allow to accumulate. In these little stress factors building one on another, we are denying yourself happiness. We are choosing to be stressed instead of happy. We are letting the anxieties cause barriers in our lives instead of coping with the stress factor itself. We are consciously making a choice to be angry, bothered, and stressed. We often chose to not do something we want to do because stress could be associated with the action. Like some people won’t go out with a friend because the friend’s mate causes a stress factor. Your choice to allow the stress and to alter your life. Meditation will allow you a peaceful mind so that those things that cause you stress will just be small little incidences instead of stress factors. They will become only the things that they are instead of stress. This will allow you better relationships with everyone since you can be happy and deal with situations better instead of having a busy mind. You can choose to be happy and non-stressed.

Meditation and the Physical Body

In having a peaceful mind you will be able to not only be happier but be more in tune with your emotions. Mainly love, self-love and understanding. Your entire body will feel better because your mind is peaceful and uncluttered. When you are stressed you physically cause changes to your body. The higher blood pressure effects the amount of blood to your brain, depriving it of the needed oxygen levels, which further stresses your brain, and in turn stresses your body further. Your kidneys that process the blood wastes can’t function at peak performance. The blood being pushed faster causes stress internally on almost every organ of your body. Stress physically harms the body on many levels reducing it’s ability to cope and lowering the capabilities of the immune system. The longer you are stressed the more harm you are choosing to inflict on your body. Meditation therefore can eliminate many possible health problems just by reducing stress. Meditation is NOT an alternative to medication and seeing a physician but it is an added benefit you can give your self in addition to medication until such time as the doctor tells you modern medicine is no longer needed. That is the goal with meditation for health - to prove to your doctor that you no longer need the external aides.

Additionally - meditation in itself, through visualization and mental direction, can aid the body in healing itself. The brain controls the body and we can control the brain through meditation exercises and knowledge. Tibetan Monks, naked, wrap themselves in wet sheets, then climb to a mountain ledge, sit and meditate overnight in below freezing weather. The do not catch a cold nor freeze to death nor even get frostbite. They substantially lower their heart rates and decrease the bodily functions, almost like a state of hibernation. This is an extreme possibilities of meditation. I’m not here to teach you to be able to sit outside all night in a wet sheet but allow you the chance to learn how to control your body with your mind. TiChi is a form of physical meditation that will not only help you be at peace within your mind but will allow you to exercise and be peaceful all at the same time. I highly recommend that you seek a meditative exercise like TiChi or Yoga.

BioRythem has become an accepted medical practice, it is nothing more than a form of meditation; the mind controlling the body in a relaxed and peaceful state of concentration. Medical studies of Cancer patients have shown an increasing number of cancer victims going into remission because they claim the use of meditation and visualization techniques put them into remission. Personally, I was told in 1982 that I would be dead in less than ten years from System Lupus Erothomosis or it’s complications because I could not take the treatments for my disease. Well, not only am I still around but I no longer even test as having the disease. In 1982 I was also told I was infertile but in 2002 with the complications that could have been since I have Lupus, diabetes, and was 40 years old I delivered a very healthy baby boy! I know how much I have used meditation and meditative visualization; and I know I am still alive and very active with a happy son.

Meditation Benefits

The benefits you receive from meditation is strictly up to you. Whether you are seeking to reduce stress for better health, to gain concentration and focus, to aid in healing ailments, to create self-empowerment and goal fulfillment, or to reach an enlightened spiritual state, meditation can help. Using meditation regularly will effect every part of your life. You will become healthier and more relaxed because your stress will be reduced and you will allow your mind to have rest. This in turn will effect the general way you feel and your outlook. Meditation will even effect the way people perceive you. You will feel better about your life, you can become happier, and people will notice.

Guided Meditation

Self-hypnosis and hypnosis put you into a state where you are listening to a person and they are control your experience and making suggestions. In a guided meditation you remain in control and in a state of consciousness. Meditation is always done in an awake state and should never be used as a sleeping aide nor done directly before sleep. In a Guided Meditation the speaker assists you in reaching a higher meditation goal by assisting you through your meditation. Giving you an audible noise to focus on allows that part of your mind to busil-- rk while you are doing your mediation practice. A Guided Meditation has a singular purpose and you should be aware of the experience you will encounter. Speak the the person who will be guiding you through the meditation and be sure that this person understands the differences between hypnosis and a guided meditation. After a guided meditation you will be able to recall the full experience in detail and receive all the benefits that a hypnosis offered plus having the awareness on a subconscious and conscience level!
