As you mix the grains and knead the dough, you will see that we must be thankful for what is grown during this summertime. It is harvested at Lughnasadh so that you can actually have the grain to feed your body and your family for the coming winter. As you make this bread , you watch it rise and grow full as the Goddess belly does as she readies for birth...and smell the aroma as it cooks....Think of it as the aroma of past generations and how they did not always have a store to go to at midnight..They harvested and ground the grain. They gathered the eggs and milked the cows whose calf nursed what was left. These ingredients came together to make the sustanance that fed families and livestock alike. It was important to be thankful and always to save a enough grain for springs' planting...this, Dear Ones, was life. We do not think of it as it is all done for us now...but we must be thankful for the ones that came before that made it possible for each wheel to turn that brought us into being. Go out and see what you can harvest ...Is there a market that has something you can pick from the vine..or from the field...I would like to see you harvest it yourself , if at all possible. This will be part of your personal harvest. Prepare your Alter ... This should have on it, the things you harvest as well as homage to the aging Lord & Lady. You may choose to have incense burning, if so, something earthy...patchouli , cedar, frankinsence or sandlewood are good choices... |
