Witch Hunt; A Mystery Role Playing Game

Greetings my fellow Witches,

Every Samhain our Coven host a Mystery Role Playing game. They are great fun and everyone has a great time at them. It’s interesting to really get to know each other and have some fun while playing the part of someone else. But these games can become costly so this year I decided to gave it a try and write the game myself.
Below is the game in full. Anyone who is interested in some fun and would like to share in this Mystery Role Playing Game is welcome. It is a few pages long (13) .
All I ask is that you enjoy it and have a wonderfully magickally Holiday ?and if you think about it later, please email and let me know how your holiday celebration went.
Be Blessed,
Lady Abigail

Witch Hunt
A Mystery Role Playing Game for Witches
By; Lady Abigail
Welcome to the Dark Ages, for you are living in the Renaissance times. You are now living in the times of Witch Hunts.
You are a member of the small village of “Ye Olde Village? You have just heard it told that the Grand Magistrate is riding to all the towns with a proclamation. Witches are amongst thee, they must be found and destroyed.
Everyone is to be of assistance in the cleansing out of this evil. Those that are doers of evil, those that are in league with the devil, those that are differing from the customs we understand.
What shall you do? Do you leave and hide, do you speak of others you have heard whisperings about, or do you wait to see what ye might learn in the hidden secrets of others? What ye shall do? Ye must take care, for any wrong word or deed, you too could be the one accused of Witchery!

Host’s guide
It is easy to prepare and run a mystery Witch Hunt party. first invite 14 Witches that you know will enjoy and participate in a role playing game. I recommend that as host you should also take a role and participate along with everyone else. Plan out 2 to 4 hours for the game and have fun.

Preparing for the party
1 Print all the parts, make name tags for each player.

2 Decide when you will be having the party, where and who
will play each role. You should read the description of each
character and try to select a role for each guest.

3 We recommend that you tell your guests to: “Please dress
up as your character. Over dressing and going to extremes
is highly recommended.?I generally find that the more
people put into the event, the more fun it is.

4 Decide how you want to do the invitations. (email, snail mail, phone) You can print and make your own.

5 You need to send each guest a copy their character via email, along with their invitation. You will fine the character descriptions in the journal Print a copy of these pages for the party to be found and read by others.

6 Print a name tag for each guest. You can print them in
color or black and white or you may like to print them on
thicker or colored paper. Cut these up and have some small
safety pins handy.

7 Decorate the room just before the party to go with the time, date and history. ( court room, village square, ect.)

8 Prepare or arrange for food for the event, it is nice to have food that sets to the date as well.

9 Decide whether you are going to have prizes for the party.

Preparing prizes (optional)
This is optional, but you may like to have some prizes available
to give to the people:
· who guess the Witch
· with the best costume
. who best plays their part in the theme of the party.

When deciding on a winner ask for details as to who, how and why you think this person is the Witch.
If you do have prizes, you should let people know they exist just
after you read out “The Rules?
Tip: Don’t assume that only one person will guess the Witch. It
is best to have a prize you can divide up (eg a box of chocolates
or a bag or box of Turkish Delights) . If no one guesses correctly,
divide the prize up amongst everyone.

Running the party
Suggestions for party as follows:

1 When everyone has arrived, read The Rules to everyone.

2 Have each player introduce themselves to the group by
saying their character’s name and a few words about
themselves from their description.

3 Check that everyone has read the “Thy Throng of Players List?pages. If
they haven’t, they will have to find the journal and read from that.

4 Let all the Players understand that finding the Witch will be up to their meeting and mingling with the other players to find out
information.

5 Make sure everyone tells the other players what they know.. their clues and that everyone participates. You may like to encourage people who are shy by asking them a question or two. Once people find out things they think may be important, they can also pass that on to the people
they meet.

6 Have the constable (or someone else) tell the players that it is believed there are Witches in your Village. They must be found out and shall be hung.

7 After everyone has had a guess, take the Who the Witch page
out of their sealed envelope and read as specified.

8 Present the prizes (if you are providing these) . If more than
one person guesses correctly, give the prize to the person
who has the most correct answers as to how and why the
person did it. You may like to also give a prize for the
person who has the best (or most creative) costume and those who played their part best.

9 Enjoy the game and have a joyous Samhain Holiday.

Invitation;

Proclamation;

Hear ye, hear ye ?by order of the High King and Holy Church,
All those whom are suspected of being ye Witch shall be henceforth
arrested and imprisoned until ye have proved thou art not a Witch.

All those in “Ye Olde Village?are called upon to seek out and give
an account on any ye believe to be Witch unto thee reckoning.
Those who shall not give name to those that be Witch shall be
Supposed as hiding said Witch at their on guilt and henceforth shall be arrested and imprisoned until thy own reckoning.

Thy Grand Magistrate
*******************
The Rules;

These are to be read out by the host to the whole group at the
beginning of the party:
Welcome to “The Witch Hunt?
Constable Hanggens has just posted and read the proclamation by the King. Witches and Witchcraft run rampant throughout out village and we must find the Witch so we might be free of this evil.
There is no need to hurry for no one may leave the village until the Witch is found. The Witch could be man or woman, rich or poor. But if we all seek the Witch I’m sure the clues will show us the way.
who seek he little if
You do not have to read each clue exactly as it is
written ?embellish it if you want. You might like to speak in
slang or with an accent but remember you are all for the times of the Witch Hunts. If your character is distressed, you could reveal your clues in between sobs. Act it out to the fullest. This is your chance to be dramatic!
At the end of the party you will be asked to guess who is the Witch and how and why you feel they are the evil one. If you work out who the Witch is before the party ends please keep it to yourself. Optional:
There is a prize for the people who guess who did it. There is
also a prize for the person with the best costume.
