Exercises for Your Pentacle

Exercise One: Symbol Formation

(this exercise is adapted from The Craft by Dorothy Morrison)

Gather together a candle, your chalice, your athame and your pentacle. Light the candle and turn off the lights. Visualize your cup filled with pure white fluid light. It may help the first couple of times to actually fill the cup with water. Dip the tip of the athame into the fluid. Using the athame as a writing tool, draw the pentagram on the pentacle. Visualize the glowing lines of the star. As the lines dim, dip the athame back into the cup and draw the shape again.

The goal is to have the shape remain without need of repainting. When you are done, erase the shield by passing your hand over the pentacle. Repeat this exercise nightly for one week. Journal your progress and share along this thread.

Exercise Two: Word Formation

(this exercise is adapted from The Craft by Dorothy Morrison)

Repeat exercise one but instead of drawing a pentagram, write a word. Start with only one word. When it remains on the pentacle without having to repaint, add another word. Use words that resonate with you such as Goddess, Faith, Believe or any other inspirational words. The goal is to have the words remain without need of repainting Erase with your hand when finished. Repeat this exercise nightly for one week. Journal your progress and share along this thread.

These exercises tap even deeper into the creative power of the Pentacle!

Exercise Three: Picture Formation
(this exercise is adapted from The Craft by Dorothy Morrison)

Repeat exercise one but instead of drawing a pentagram, draw a picture. Start with a simple picture such as a bird or house. When it remains on the pentacle without having to repaint, add another image.  You don’t need to be an artist, even an abstract shape will do. Again the goal is to have the image remain without repainting. These exercises build up your imagery skills to use your pentacle for scrying. Erase with your hand when finished. Repeat this exercise nightly for one week. Journal your progress and share along this thread.

Exercise Four: Scrying
(this exercise is adapted from The Craft by Dorothy Morrison)

Repeat the above exercises but instead of using the athame and cup, simply visual first the star, then a word, then a picture on the pentacle tile. Just allow images to come up on their own. Don’t worry if at first nothing appears or the pentacle appears misty. Just allow what comes up to appear. Repeat this exercise nightly for one week. Journal your progress and share along this thread. Post any symbolism that appears consistently for you.
