WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ATTUNEMENT

Receiving the First Degree of Reiki involves four initiations that will awaken and empower four chakras, or energy centers. To open these centers, the Reiki Master will use the symbols and mantras Dr. Usui found in the old scrolls that contained the methods Buddha used for healing. During this process, most people will sit quietly and close their eyes. Closing the eyes will allow you to pull within yourself and consciously participate in this unique process. Trying to watch what is happening or following the Masters movements will disrupt this flow of concentration. The first degree attunements are focused primarily on the physical body, allowing it to open to accept and transfer greater quantities of life force energy. The attunements will raise the vibratory level of these four spiritual centers.

The initiation of your heart center will awaken you to unconditional love. In addition, the thymus, or spiritual heart will also be attuned on the etheric level. The initiation of the throat chakra awakens the inner being to trust and communication. The thyroid gland is attuned and, on the etheric level, the throat. The attunement of the third eye center will awaken your intuitive potential, providing you with a deeper knowing and connection to the Divine will of the Universal energy that is Reiki. In the process the pituitary gland is attuned. This gland serves as our center of higher consciousness and intuition. The hypothalamus gland is also attuned. This gland controls body temperature and moods. On the etheric level, the third eye chakra is attuned. The fourth and final attunement opens your crown center and aligns you to this higher form of energy. Spiritual consciousness is expanded. The pineal gland is attuned, known as the receiver of light. The crown chakra is attuned on the etheric level.

There are several powers that are imparted by these attunements. The student becomes a channel for Reiki energy and is now able to become a clear channel of this energy, passing it out through the hands. The student is provided with protection so that none of his personal energy will be transmitted to the recipient of the Reiki energy. This also prevents the Reiki practitioner from absorbing any energy or illness from the person who is being treated. The sensitivity in the hands is greatly increased. This becomes evident whenever the hands placed in position for healing. For some this will feel like a tingling sensation, while others perceive it as warmth flowing from the palms. All of these abilities are anchored deep within the personality of the student forever.

Change usually occurs quickly after the first degree Reiki Attunement. While you may come to the seminar with the same concerns as most of the world survival, work issues, and concern with material wealth and possessions after receiving the initiations your focus will be more on inner awareness and less on the outer world. You will begin to remember that you may not have even begun to experience who and what you are in this lifetime. Perhaps the most dramatic shift following the first level attunement is the releasing of fear in the subtle body energy. As the loving energy of Reiki penetrates the soul and subtle energy levels, space must be made for it. Since fear and love are opposites, you may find yourself choosing to let go of what you feel no longer serves your souls higher purpose. As you release the fears, your life focus shifts from survival issues to love of Self and others.

At the same time, more shifts are occurring deep within the emotional levels. It will become more difficult for you to relate to or understand people who are critical or who engage in negative thinking or behaviors. Your soul will be leading you to expanded vision and compassion. Since you have released your own fear issues, you may discover that previous relationships that were based on negative energies will be released as well. Trust that all of these changes are positive responses to your empowerment and openness to unconditional love. You have opened the door to a deeper spiritual awareness.
