Lesson 8: Changing the Shield To Different Shapes

Changing the shield to different shapes can help to achieve different effects in how you want to direct the energy and deflect others from you. You can use the shapes in conjunction with the colors as well. You can use the different colors and shapes on any shield you design, but where we are starting with bubble shields, this is what you will practice with first.

The benefit of changing the shape of your shield is you can pull into effect the different aspects of the shield, and you can use the shapes to their fullest benefit. Such as making a circle spin, using the triangles sloping sides to be a slide, or using the octagram’s more pokey corners as spikes. Each of these effects, and more, deter entities and parasites from attaching to your shield.

To change the shape of your shield, hold the picture of the shape in your mind and see your shield shift to that shape. It is complete mind control. The shapes listed here have the pictures next to them of the specific shape, so you will have a visual guide for these. Until you become familiar with changing the shape of your shield, you may have to think of your shield consciously to make sure the shape is still there, but the more experience you have, the longer you use shapes in your shield, the easier it becomes and the less you will have to think of your shield.

There are seven examples of different shapes in this lesson and their effects, but these are not the only ones that you can use, all it takes is some imagination, some patience and trial and error to find how the different shapes work for you.

Shape

Effect

Circle

*No corners for stray energy to catch on.
*Slide effect.
*An energy vortex can be created inside.
*Continuity.
*Containment.
*“Circle of life.?
*Bouncy like a rubber ball.
*It can be spun.
*The smooth, flat surfaces can be harder to attach things too, and harder for entities and parasites to cling to.
*“Ever turning heavens.?(Representation of the universe).
*Potential.
*Transcendent.
*It can represent the Goddess.
*Symbol of Universe
*Number 1
*Wholeness
*Protection
*Eternity
*The Center

Triangle

*Direct energy through the points.
*Create a slide effect off the sides.
*Represents Positive/Negative/Neutral energies to create balance (not good/bad/neutral…think of polarity).
*Stability and solidity.
*Focus.
*Structure.
*It can represent the Triple Goddess.
*Unity
*Number 3
*Manifestation on the Material Plane (Earth)
*Grounding

Square

*Grid effect.
*Manifestation.
*Uniformity.
*Regularity.
*Represents Earth (Matter).
*Here and now realities of the manifested world around us.
*Solidity.
*Reality.
*It can represent the God.
*Symbol of Earth and it’s four cardinal points
*Equilibrium
*Number 4
*Permanence
*Firmly grounded

Hexagram

*Most often seen as the Star of David.
*Balance of seemingly opposed patterns.
*Harmony.
*Many points to direct energy.
*Corners can be used as spikes to deter touching by entities.
*Symbol of the union of the Spiritual and Physical worlds
*Two opposing triangles can symbolize the union of the Universe (downward facing triangle) and Earth (upward facing triangle)
*Opposites of male and female

Octagram

*Cooperation.
*Interactions between two firmly established forces or factors.
*Many points to direct energy.
*Corners can be used as spikes to deter touching by entities.

Dodecahedron

*Transcendence.
*Connects to the four elements and also spirit…mostly spirit.
*Many points to direct energy.
*Small slide effect. Similar to the Octagon, but more 3D.

Squaring the Circle

*This one is a special combination of the circle, square and triangle. It pulls into play the effects of all three of these shapes.
*Attainment
*Success
*May bring into the aspect of the Goddess, God and Triple Goddess
*Symbol of the Temple, The meeting of Universe and Earth

(This shape can also be assumed without the triangle, you can also have the circle completely inside of the square)

Some of you may find using shapes too restrictive or may give you a claustrophobic feeling, but for those of you who do like to incorporate shapes into your magickal workings may indeed like to use shapes in your shielding as well. When you combine the shapes with colors and the type of shield you use, you can create a powerful combination.

Variations to the shapes:

Like stated in the previous paragraph, different colors and shield types can be used with the shapes. You can also use the shapes with combinations of two or more shields at the same time. We will cover combining shields further in the lessons.

Some variations to the different shapes are:

  • Circle: cylinder, sphere, oval, ellipse, squared circle
  • Triangle: equilateral triangle, isosceles triangle, scalene triangle, right triangle, tetrahedron, down-pointing triangle
  • Square: cube
  • Hexagram: pentagram
  • Octagram: dodecagram
  • Dodecahedron: icosahedron
  • Star: star, 5-pointed star, 6-pointed star, 8-pointed star, the pole star,

You can also form the shield to the shape of animals to utilize they aspects, but be careful that the negative aspects of each animal doesn’t affect your shield. For more information on animals you can check out the Animal Magick Board and the Familiars board.

Again these are not the only variations that you can use for the shapes, and each variation brings into its own unique effects, so like stated previously, it takes is some imagination, some patience and trial and error to find how the different shapes work for you.

Homework:

After about a week of trying the different shapes, or a few of the different shapes, come back to this post and share your experiences. Post in this same topic thread so others can learn from your experiences. Try at least a few of the different shapes, or your own shapes. If you use your own shapes, tell us what the shape looks like and what effects it has. Try to create and remove the shapes at various times. This is so you get a good feeling of how the shape affects you and your shield.

**Some of the information in the effects of the shapes were garnered from the Sacred Geometry Oracle by John Michael Greer (Llewellyn Worldwide ISBN 0-7387-0051-7)
