Lesson 6: Thickening and Thinning the Shield
Depending on the situation, you may need a thicker or a thinner shield as the situation calls for. You ideally want to use the minimum amount of energy to create and maintain your shield so that you can function yourself to optimal levels.
Thinning a shield
A thinner shield is good for when you may be going out into a general situation like general errands, meeting friends or anything that might be non stressful or just a little bit stressful. Also if you are receiving healing work, a thinner shield makes the healing easier on the healer, but you should only thin your shield in this situation if you absolutely trust your healer. The ideal for a thinner shield is if you know your energy will not be overwhelmed with other peoples.
If you create your shield, you should have it created at its�?thinnest thickness, or at the level that you are most comfortable with for everyday activities. Then, you can increase thickness as necessary. If your shield is already thick, and you need to thin it down, that is, in a normal situation, you find others reacting to you awkwardly, your shield may be too much for them to handle, you need to thin it
To thin your shield, just imagine a drain back into yourself. This is your energy that you have created; you want to preserve it. Negative energy did not create the shield, so you do want to conserve this energy for maintaining the shield
Imagine at your solar plexus, a hole of light. Withdraw the energy from the shield so that it is thinned down to a thickness more appropriate to the situation at hand.
Alternately, depending on if you are a sensory or visual person, you can see or feel your shield getting thinner
Thickening a shield
Depending on the situation as it fluctuates, it is just as easy to thicken a shield as well. Caution is called for here as you may be able to use other methods (colors, textures, etc...which will be covered later), that will utilize minimal energy for you to maintain and might be easier
Some of the situations you may need a thicker shield for is if you are going to be at a family get together, out at a party or date where you will meet with a lot of different people such as the movies or a restaurant, or at business meetings where stress might be a big factor
Beginning with the created shield, you want to imagine light streaming in layers around the basic shield. Add each layer until the shield is as thick as necessary. Alternatively, again if you are a sensory or visual person, you can see or feel your shield becoming thinner. There isn’t any more benefit to having the thickest shield up at all times, but there are many benefits at keeping your shield at the best level for the situation that calls for it. In this, of course, you have to use your intuition
The maximum layers you may need should not be more than 3 to 5. If your shield needs to be thicker, there are other techniques you will later learn to optimize the effectiveness of your shield. Remember, it does take practice, and each layer shield can be any thickness that you need it to be.
Examples:
At work, I wish to have use of a shield at all times. There are many different factors from negative coworkers to positive coworkers to dealing with the general public. I will want a minimal shield with the positive coworkers and those that aren’t too sure of themselves so that they aren’t intimidated for reasons unknown to them. Conversely, I want a thicker shield up for dealing with negative coworkers and those who may be psychic vampires. The ability to monitor the shield for the varying degrees needed of thickness and thinness is critical for me to function with all those variables thrown in together.
Now add the general public. Customers come from the ‘extreme appreciative�?to the ‘just can’t please�?extremes. I have had to do double shields with colors to protect myself from some very negative people (you will learn this later). A general shield though, thickening and thinning as necessary is usually sufficient with different customers.
1. Besides the examples for a thicker and thinner shields above, what other examples can you think of that you may need for a thicker shield? How about for a thinner one
2. Create your basic shield. Notice the thinness of it. See it. Feel it. Get acquainted with it. What does it feel like? How does it affect you
3. Now, thicken your shield by layers. Does it feel different? Notice the energy change (there will be one). How does it affect you
4. Practice thinning and thickening your shield in different situations. Practice where you know there will be a lot of people and also where there will be very few. How did it affect you in each situation
5. Can you think of any different ways to thicken or thin your shield after practicing a bit with it?
