Now I can see the pics ... Instead of me trying to explain it in one post... Here's a great article about it and some things you can do to correct the problem. |

Slave2kitty: You left out 1 critical part of the puzzle. When do you get this error message? Windows: startup// random// shutDown. Program :startup//during use//shutdown example: If you get the error at Windows ShutDown: It might be that your running Norton Firewall & the file named Iamapp.exe is being loaded from the startup group in the Windows Registry, rather then being loaded from the Windows StartUp Folder. If you get the error at windows Startup, it can be any number of different reasons, it could be that your page file is really set too low, or that there are way too many process's & programs starting up. PS: ShutDown example details can be found at: OR

i get it after i have been using the computer for awhile...usually while i am doing PSP...and i do seem to have alot of things running...when i do a scan with AdAware or antispyware, it says i have 40+ running processes... ...last night i removed Norton from my 'puter, and so far it hasn't happened again..but that may be coincidental.. ..my Norton expired and so i am using avast now

From: Woody | Sent: 5/20/2005 8:57 AM | Adding more RAM will help this problem also. PSP can be a pretty demanding program when running, and a lot of your systems RAM may already be in use when you fire up PSP. You have 352MB of RAM. This is one reason I always recommend a minimum of 512MB for XP. The more the merrier...Woody | Reply
| | thanx for the info...8i've been thinking about getting an 'external hard drive' and i assume all i have to do is plug it into my cpu???...and then i will be able to transfer alot of my stuff from My Pictures into there?? and can i leave it turned off when i don't need it, even if my 'puter is running??? i'm really not 'savvy' about this stuff...i know it won't increase my memory any, but it will give me more storage space, won't it? | | Reply
| | You need to have a place to plug it in. Are you talking about one that plugs into a usb port? Those work great! And you don't have to leave it plugged in all the time either. You can transfer over to it or use it to back up everything! Get a big one! You can also do a complete backup of your c: on it if it's big enuff too. Use start, run, accessories, system tools... backup to do that. They are called Desktop Hard drives btw. | | Reply

| | Try this, go to control panel, select system, click on advanced tab, select performance, click on settings, select advanced, at the bottom look for virtual memory, click on change. Set virtual memory to custom size. Set both the initial and max values to 1.5X the amount of RAM you have. If you have more than one partition on your drive, set the page file on C to 50M and create a page file on a seperate partition that is 1.5X RAM. Also if you go back to the performance tab, look at visual effects. if you select adjust for best performance. You will lose the nice look of XP, but your computer will run better. | | |
