It is nearly impossible for an undergraduate in social science to find a job here, not to mention that your major is political science (not economics or other more popular ones) and that is even not a US degree. Even you hold a US degree (even master in social science or business field), it is not that positive that you could find a job. I am not discouraging you but that is the fact. I myself am also poli-sci major.
What are your advantages when compared with people majoring in business fields?? If you were the interviewer, would you hire a person like you, not those MBAs from top universities in the States??
To tell the truth, the best choice for you is to get a degree in other relevant fields (business, economics, statistics, finance....) if you really want to work in these fields. To get another degree is not your worsr choice!!!!! Again, tt is nearly impossible for an undergraduate in social science to find a job here.
If this is your only offer, and you are willing to accpet it, then take it! If you have other offers, compare what benefits these jobs can give you, which one is more helpful to your career.
Same as above, place yourself in the company's position, will they (business firms) hire a person like you, with your background in social science? |

讓在下做個小回答?BR> 第一在下不認為是nearly impossible for an undergraduate in social science to find a job here. [email protected]

Maybe I should put it more precisely. But, anyway... I read your post on PPT, not here. Where is that? Anyway, it takes time to get the license and develop your clients. Maybe you could share more experience with us!! Good Luck to you! |

Frankly I was rather reluctant to respond to your message. However, as it seems like that you are not quite convinced by Gilbert's comments, with which I totally agree, let me put in more relevant facts to see if they can ever "wake you up". I used to work for various offices of the so-called Big-4 CPA firms in US and Taiwan for many years, and ever assisted the firms with their college recruiting activities in NYC. While pursuing the LL.M., I am currently in the process of interviewing with the Big-4 firms again for managerial positions in both NYC and Boston. As such, I think I am qualified to tell you the following. Practically speaking, your credentials would not even pass the very first screening process conducted by the HR at Big-4. Nowadays only candidates who are at least eligible to "sit" for the CPA exam in some states like NY or CA, have a US-based undergraduate degree in accounting and strong oral and written communication skills (of course in English) will be possibly considered for an entry-level position there. I don't see why any CPA firm (not just Big-4, but also those mid- and small- CPA firms) would want to recruit someone who seemingly has no idea of what accounting/aduit/tax are all about. I don't think Gilbert was in any sense trying to discourage you; he was just telling you the truth. You don't need to agree with him, but I would say that is your loss. In fact, your words about your mentality, in terms of job searching, shows your immaturity. If I were you, however, I would, as what Gilbert had already suggested, try to get a degree in business before anything else can be considered. |

I was also a poli-sci student and I got my degree here in the US. But just like what them said, it's impossible for you to get a job that you are talking about. I am now studying Computer Science and hopefully I can get into BU Law next year. A social science degree in U.S. doesn't really help you to find a good job, unless you want to be a professor in school. In my opinion, I think it might be better for you to get another degree in business or science. |
