Homemade Taffy 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1/4 cup light corn syrup 1/8 tsp. salt Butter a large platter Stir together all ingredients in large saucepan and heat slowly until all the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking and stirring. Test occasionally by dropping a small amount from a spoon into a cup of ice water. Taffy is done when you can form a hard ball in the ice water or when it reaches 255* on a candy thermometer. AT ONCE pour onto the buttered platter. When candy is cool enough to handle, gather it into a ball and pull it until it is white and firm. Grease hands slightly with butter so taffy won't stick to your hands. Pull taffy out into a rope, twist and when slightly stiff, cut with scissors. Taffy can be flavored by adding a few drops of peppermint, a tsp. of vanilla, a tsp of strawberry or 2 T cocoa just before you start to pull it. Wrap each piece in waxed paper if you happen to have any left. This is fun to make with the kids on a cold snowy night!
