Crockpot Fried Apples
3 Pounds GrannySmith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1 Teaspoon cinnamon 1 Dash freshly-grated nutmeg, (optional) 3 Tablespoons cornstarch 1 Cup granulated sugar 1 Tablespoon butter - (to 2 tablespoons), cut in small pieces Place apple slices in the crockpot; stir in remaining ingredients and dot with the butter. Cover and cook on LOW for about 6 hours, or until apples are tender but not mushy. Stir about halfway through cooking. This recipe yields 2 1/2 to 3 cups.
Comments: I make double of this. Freeze some. In case I want an apple pie. Just thaw an put in pie crust. Bake as usual. I serve these right out of the crock over vanilla ice cream. MMMMM!!
