I agree about pensioners.  This is where I rant.....
 
My dad served in Korea, another war New Zealand shouldn't have been involved in.  Dad is on the war pension - which pays a damn sight better than the standard pension.  But he has multiple health complications resulting from the war and a huge sum of money is spent on his Dr and medication.
 
Dad caught the flu the other week and I was too sick to travel down to Kapiti to see him.  I got my brother to drive from Taranaki to check on him.  My dad was sitting there, no heater on - freezing his arse off.  My brother said dad was like an icebox to touch.
 
Other than minor driving offenses, my dad has never broken the law - but it's ok if him and others like him are allowed to freeze.  But it's not ok for some crim to not have toasty warm footsies?  How pathetic is our system?
