Boy dies near newly laid underground power cables

A seven-year-old boy was electrocuted near Napier today apparently after touching a metal stake in ground where electricity cables had been laid.

Two ambulance crews worked for nearly half an hour to try to resuscitate the boy but he died at the scene in Westminster Ave in Tamatea, Stephen Smith, district operations manager for St John Ambulance said.

The call was received at around 2pm.

Police said they will make a statement later.

I've had a busy shift today. Poor wee kid

Makes the ambulance crews look good, doesnt it?
In reality, my step-son and his mate gave CPR for twenty bloody minutes before the ambulance rolled up.
They were passing the scene at the time in their truck

How is your poor stepson?

It was devastating for the attending staff. We already had another sad 1S they were dealig with at the time. As usual the Napier units were superb. I have already sent in an email via my Supervisor praising the staff working that day and the previous day.

I had a couple of nasty 1V's SH 2 Tutira and SH 2 just North of the SH 5 turn off. You could say we were a little 'stretched.'

Hard to say Ali.
One tends to forget that cops get armoured against death, blood and guts and I usually overlook the fact that MOPs arn't.

He's pretty level headed in that respect though......

I'm sure you've all ready told him he did well. Good on him for trying - and believe me, they (your step son and his mate) really tried hard to bring him back. Please pass on my appreciation to him for what he did. The Officers who dealt with this had a tough time of it all. I just wanted to be there to give them both a huge hug.
