Crocker South Dakota Centennial

I had a great time at the Crocker Centennial

Crocker is a little tiny town in a place called
'The Crocker Hills'

There were over 100 entrants for the parade, in the town that has only one place of business, and one church

There are approximately 100 people that live at, or near the vicinity of 'down town'.

There were corral panels blocking off the immediate down town area, from traffic. The Street in front of the one business place, The Sportsmans Bar, was occupied by a huge tent, filled with tables and chairs, and a podium for announcements and bands. Another tent directly to the north of the bar was set up as a 'beer garden' with several old spools that once carried high line wire, used by the electric companies to line the hiways with power lines. These spools were to serve as tables for the merry makers.

Between the Beer Garden and the bar was a Dunk Tank, where a person would sit on a platform over a tank of water, waiting for one of the crowd to throw a softball, hard enough, to trip the platform, dunking the 'sitting duck' into the tank. There were several volunteers for that job, as it was a hot day.

There were several food and drink venders in an empty lot in the next block. Food being served included BBQ Sandwiches, BBQ'd Ribs, Chicken, cotton candy, hotdogs, and several other delicious items. Another big BBQ grill was set up next to the bar, serving Grilled Bratworst, BBQ'd pork sandwiches, among other things.

There were games for the kids at the church, Horse shoe toss in an empty lot, Tug of war, Tractor pull, and lots of other activities set up for the entertainment of all.

In the large tent that was on the main street of the town, were several of the current and past residents, telling tales of thier own lives, and of the history of the community.
The evening festivities are to be a street dance.

I would have liked to stay for the complete celebration, but I was tired and wore out already.
The estimates of the visitors to this town, for this celebration was figured to surpass the 2000 mark. I have not heard the actual number as yet. I do know there were a lot of people. (a lot)

I'll tell you more about it when I hear all the happenings, that I was unable to witness. I'm sure it is all going to be very exciting, even into the night .

There are to be fireworks at dusk.

Karen
