~ I Remember ~
I remember those days of long ago
When Sunday dinner (the noon time meal)
was home grown chicken, butchered fresh
all picked and cleaned, and properly dressed
The cast iron pan was heated o'er
the cook stove plate, with fire below
The chicken cut and golden browned
and in the roaster to bake till done
Potatoes peeled and in the pot
to bubble and boil then mashed and brought
to the table all creamy, with home dipped cream
and topped with butter, that we had churned
The vegetables picked from the garden fresh
done to perfection, then in the dish
The table set with the plates and silver
we'd shined and polished, till it fairly shimmered
The platters stacked with chicken high
and the counters lined with home made pie
Not a meal was made without the love
nor without the memories of the Old Cook Stove.
