WWE RESULTS SUMMERSLAM FOR 8-21-05 Chris Benoit Vs Orlando Jordan US Champion Chris Benoit def. Orlando Jordan (new United States Champion) August 21, 2005 Just as he promised, Chris Benoit made Orlando Jordan tap out to the Crippler Crossface, allowing Benoit to win the United States Championship for a third time. The more shocking part was how long the match took. Benoit needed less than a minute to apply the devestating move. Randy Orton def. Undertaker Randy Orton can finally add Undertaker to his list of beaten legends, but not without some timely help from his father Cowboy Bob Orton. Undertaker looked to be in control late in the match after a big Chokeslam, but then what appeared to be an over zealous fan came to the ring, distracting Undertaker and the referee. In the meantime, Orton came to his senses, and when Taker finally turned back to Orton, he hit Taker with an RKO and recorded the pin. Moments later, Orton revealed the "fan" was actually his father in disguise. Father and son posed while Undertaker fumed back in the ring. Kurt Angle vs Eugene Kurt Angle def. Eugene Kurt Angle made his point. The only Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history, punished Eugene and took back his gold medal at SummerSlam. Eugene put up a slight fight early, actually connecting with a Rock Bottom and a Stunner before Angle hit Eugene with an Angle Slam. Angle then cinched in the Ankle Lock, which proved too much for Eugene, who tapped out. After the match, Angle threw Eugene out of the ring and used a chair to erect a makeshift medal platform. He then had the referee place the medal around his neck while his music played. Edge vs Matt Hardy Edge def. Matt Hardy Matt Hardy's quest for revenge against Edge and Lita never quite materialized. Hardy lost his match to Edge when referee Chad Patton stopped the match when Hardy began to bleed steadily from his forehead. Hardy refused to quit on his own. Overall, the match resembled a brawl more than it did a wrestling match, with both men clearly emotional. Edge created the gash when he slammed Hardy's head against the steel ring post. Rey Mysterio def. Eddie Guerrero In the end, with Guerrero in control, Eddie's wife Vicki came to the ring and pushed her husband off the ladder. Earlier in the night, Vicki had told Eddie he was in this match for all of the wrong reasons. With Eddie on the mat, Vicki shielded Rey from her husband as Rey marched up the ladder and snatched the briefcase. Rey and Dominick shared an emotional hug after the match as Rey's wife Angie also came to the ring to celebrate. WWE Champion John Cena def. Chris Jericho John Cena retained the WWE Championship with one of the most impressive victories of his career over Chris Jericho at SummerSlam. Jericho was in total control late when he applied the Walls of Jericho, locking the move in for more than minute. But Cena was just able to get to the bottom rope, forcing Jericho to break the hold. Jericho did more damage with a back suplex off the top rope, but Cena just kicked out, frustrating Jericho to the point of complaining to the referee about the count. Moments later, Cena was able to land a massive FU and record the pin to keep his WWE Championship. World Heavyweight Champion Batista def. JBL It turns out the No Holds Barred stipulation was right up Batista's alley. In a brutal match, much of which took place outside the ring, Batista defeated and downright punished JBL to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam in his hometown of Washington, D.C. The match turned when JBL brought the steel steps into the ring, prepared to inflict some damage. Instead, Batista tossed JBL from the steps with a back body drop and then hit a Batista Bomb. But instead of pinning JBL, Batista picked him up off the mat and sent him back-first into the steps with another Batista Bomb before recording the pin on the steps. Hulk Hogan def. Shawn Michaels Advantage, Legend. In one of the most anticipated matches in SummerSlam history, Hulk Hogan defeated Shawn Michaels. Late in the match, a bloodied Hogan managed to escape a Sharpshooter and kick out of the combination of a flying elbow and Sweet Chin Music. Hogan then delivered a big boot and leg drop to finish HBK off. After the match, the two men shook hands with HBK telling Hogan he needed this match to find out for himself. What he found out was that Hulk Hogan still has it. Your Wrestling Guide, Love & Peace, AngelBear7042 |
