In one of the biggest wins of Orlando Jordan's career, the United States Champion found a way to knock out and pin The Rabid Wolverine.
Chris Benoit looked poised to win the championship after hitting three German suplexes and his patented flying headbutt. But in an act of desperation, Jordan shielded the corner from the referee while removing the padding from the top turnbuckle. He then used Benoit’s own momentum to propel him face-first into the exposed steel. It knocked Benoit out cold, and Jordan passed a crucial test in his WWE career by beating the former world champion. Perhaps the key for Jordan was his elusiveness; he managed to avoid all of The Crippler’s attempts to apply submission holds ?twice preventing Benoit from locking in the Sharpshooter.
The Undertaker vs Muhammad Hassan
Undertaker def. Muhammad Hassan
Various media outlets speculated as to whether this would be Muhammad Hassan’s last match. It now appears that it may very well be. Before the match, a brash and confident Hassan spoke of his sacrifices as an Arab-American, ensured that he’d be the next No. 1 Contender to the World Heavyweight Championship and then proclaimed that if he lost, it would be the final time he’d show his face.
Then, the lights went out on Hassan’s SmackDown! career.
Late in the match, Undertaker caught Hassan with a punishing chokeslam to earn the win. Hassan’s sympathizers rushed the ring, but Undertaker fought them all off ?finally hitting the Tombstone on the hooded man who had twice choked him out with piano wire. Hassan bought some time by pushing Daivari toward the Phenom, and Undertaker promptly put Hassan’s manager through an announce table. The Deadman then caught Hassan crawling up the entrance ramp and hit yet another chokeslam ?this time onto the metal ramp.
Undertaker then did the unthinkable: He removed portions of the steel stage to create a cavernous opening. Undertaker then lifted Hassan and gave him a Last Ride to the concrete far below. Hassan’s body lay contorted with blood gushing from the back of his head. EMTs tried feverishly to stabilize Hassan and quickly ushered him to a nearby medical facility.
Mexicools vs BWO
The Mexicools def. the bWo
The Blue Meanie, Big Stevie Cool and Hollywood Nova got some laughs with more bWo ring antics, but it was the Mexicools who ultimately earned an impressive win with their energy and athleticism.
After Stevie was forced into the ring corner, Super Crazy surprised him with a moonsault off the ropes. Psicosis immediately followed up with a guillotine leg drop off the top rope that finished off Stevie and the bWo.
In doing so, Juventud, Super Crazy and Psicosis effectively put a stop to bWo’s mockery, which included driving to the ring on Big Wheels to parody the Mexicools?usual ring entrance.
Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero
Rey Mysterio def. Eddie Guerrero
Despite enduring mental, physical and emotional torture at the hands of Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio managed a miracle reversal to continue his winning streak and protect his family from a dark secret.
Guerrero appeared to have the match won after hitting his frog splash finisher, but the cover that followed was dangerously casual. Mysterio took the opportunity to roll up Eddie for an unexpected win. Mysterio’s son Dominick immediately ran into his father’s arms to celebrate.
Before the bell, Guerrero forced Mysterio to feign friendship by shaking hands and hugging in front of Dominick. Rey’s son was only at ringside per a stipulation forced by Guerrero to more easily manipulate his opponent. But Rey’s emotion boiled over as he clotheslined Eddie to begin the contest.
Prior to the stunning victory, every Mysterio attempt at offense was stymied by Guerrero’s manipulative tactics. Once, Eddie even grabbed Dominick’s head, seemingly threatening to harm the child if Rey didn’t relent. But ultimately, the father was able to protect his son, inside the ring and out.
Melina vs Torrie Wilson in Bra & Panties match
MNM may have lost the WWE Tag Team Championship at The Great American Bash, but Melina did her part by stripping Torrie Wilson. down to her bra and panties for a jaw-dropping, eye-popping win. Afterward, the Buffalo crowd and incredibly sexy Torrie watched as special referee Candice joined in by stripping down herself. Torrie and Candice then embraced and two of WWE’s sexiest Divas headed up the ring ramp together.
JBL vs Batista
JBL def. World Heavyweight Champion Batista (DQ)
Batista’s intense rage helped him win the WorldHeavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 21. But at The Great American Bash, that same fury cost him his match against JBL.
With the referee knocked unconscious, JBL’s Chief of Staff Orlando Jordon tried again and again to take out Batista with a steel chair. Eventually, Batista was left with no alternative but to rip the chair away and toss Jordan aside. Batista then smashed both Orlando and JBL with the chair, but by that time the referee was awake and witnessed the final act worthy of disqualification.
Batista was stunned with disbelief when he heard the bell sound to signify his DQ, and with nothing then to lose, he ripped into his rivals with a total of 11 chair shots to the back and head.
He headed up the ramp with his World Heavyweight Championship, shaking his head at all that had just transpired. But when JBL was announced before the thousands in attendance in the HSBC Arena as the official victor, Batista had to head back down to dish out some more punishment ?hitting Batista Bombs on both Orlando and JBL.
While JBL did make good on his guarantee to win at The Great American Bash, he didn’t claim the World Heavyweight Championship. The closest he came was hitting a vicious Clothesline from Hell on Batista while the referee was knocked out. JBL pulled at his hair in frustration, realizing that his best chance to become champion was quickly evaporating because of the lack of a referee. He attempted a second clothesline finisher, but Batista caught him with a spinebuster. Sensing danger to JBL’s chances, Orlando pounced with the chair, setting in motion the events that led to Batista’s eventual disqualification. This match was not fair allowing Orlando Jordan to interfere and therefore causing problems and the dumb referee getting knocked out and did not see what really happened.
