Judgment Day is a night that Melina wishes she could permanently erase from her mind. Just moments after her team, MNM, lost the WWE Tag Team Championship and imploded, she suffered a controversial loss to her former image consultant Jillian, and was punked out by SmackDown interviewer Kristal. To make matters even worse, Melina and Johnny Nitro were fired by General Manager Theodore Long after the Diva slapped the GM in protest of the match.
The two Divas showed that they are much more than just eye candy as they battled in a physical back and forth match. As the match wore on, Jillian was able to come out of the corner with a roll up. Melina managed to get her hand on the bottom rope, but referee Chris Kay was out of position to see it, and counted her shoulders down for the 1-2-3. Despite Melina’s protest, Jillian was victorious, and Melina’s night continued on a downward spiral.
A livid Melina started to make her way up the ramp, but she was cut off by Kristal. The SmackDown interviewer said, with a big smile on her face, she had to ask the question that is on everyone’s mind - “This hasn’t been a good night for you, has it??Melina wound up with a big swing, but Kristal ducked and knocked down the furious Diva. Officials separated the two Divas, forcing an enraged and embarrassed Melina to retreat backstage.
After a brief hiatus, the Cruiserweight Championship was back in action at Judgment Day. Gregory Helms, the self-proclaimed “greatest Cruiserweight Champion of all time?lived up to his billing on this night, even if it was in controversial fashion. Helms used a Powerbomb into a pinning combination with his feet on the ropes to gain the victory over a more than game challenger in Super Crazy.
The SmackDown exclusive cruiserweights once again threatened to steal the show as the match was full of exciting high-risk maneuvers. At one point, Helms was outside the ring attempting to regroup from a recent assault. When Super Crazy lined up the prone Champion for a dive to the outside, the ref stepped in and attempted to prevent the Mexicool from causing any permanent damage to either of the competitors. At the encouragement of the fans, Super Crazy ignored referee Nick Patrick’s advice and jumped clear over both him and the ring ropes, landing square on his downed opponent.
Unfortunately for the fan favorite Super Crazy, it wasn’t meant to be on this night. A more than spirited fight came up short when Gregory Helms used the ropes to gain leverage for the pin. The “greatest?Cruiserweight Champion remained just that on this night, as he narrowly escaped his courageous challenger.
Mark Henry defeated Kurt Angle via count out, but just as his mouthpiece said, Angle was out for revenge at Judgment Day, and he got it. After the match, Angle snapped, and tore into the big man with a steel chair several times, and Angle Slammed him onto the announce table.
The match started in the ring, but it couldn’t contain the fury of these two, as they eventually brawled to the outside. Mark Henry wound up picking Kurt up in a mammoth bear hug, and ran him directly into the ring post, nearly breaking the Wrestling Machine in half.
While Angle was writhing in agony on the floor, Henry was able to make it back into the ring before the referee reached the count of 10. Angle, however, was not able to do the same, as Henry nearly shattered Angle’s already cracked ribs, leaving him down for the count on the outside.
After Henry was declared the winner, Angle and his drive for revenge took control, as the Wrestling Machine went ballistic, mercilessly attacking Henry with a steel chair. Kurt wasn’t done though, he tried to break Henry’s ankle with an Ankle Lock to gain some measure of revenge on Henry for taking him out of the King of the Ring Tournament.
It took several agents and referees to get Kurt off Henry, and have him release the hold. This only led to Angle giving the behemoth Henry an Angle Slam onto the commentators?table and cracking him in the head with another vengeful blow from a steel chair. Henry was out cold on impact and the giant fell, crushing the table under his overwhelming frame.
As indicated by Angle’s mouthpiece, which had the word revenge written on it, Angle’s purpose in this match was just that, revenge. On this night, Angle proved that neither cracked ribs nor a count out can stop the Wrestling Machine.
At Judgment Day, Booker T lived up to his promise, and did just what he said he would when he defeated Lashley to become the new King of the Ring. King Booker got help from his wife Sharmell, and later from Finlay as he used a scissor kick to get the pin on the determined newcomer. However, what happened after the match may be what is remembered the most.
King Booker, basking in the glow of his controversial victory, immediately went to try on his newly won crown and robe. Moments later, a furious Lashley, realizing what happened, made his way towards Booker and the throne. Seeing Booker with the crown apparently sent the youngster over the edge, because seconds later, in one of the most memorable moments in King of the Ring history, he speared Booker and his crown through the throne, effectively putting an end to the celebration.
Just minutes after the attack, WWE.com caught up with an emotional Lashley backstage. The SmackDown powerhouse, who is usually soft-spoken, was anything but that with his comments. “That felt good! He deserved it. Booker had no business winning that match, but this ain’t over. Booker, you better make sure you look over your shoulder, because I could be there at any point.?/FONT>
Those comments will soon be put to the test. WWE.com has learned that this week on SmackDown, Booker T will have his official King of the Ring coronation.
Undertaker has been down before, but he always seems to get up. Even after losses, the Deadman usually finds a way to ominously sit up and stare his opponent in the eye. But Judgment Day was different. The Phenom was completely dominated for the first time in his illustrious career, and laid motionless in the ring following the dominating defeat.
Undertaker endured a wide array of monstrous punches, chops and kicks from The Great Khali and kept coming back. The Deadman even hit Old School, but after failing to hit a chokeslam, The Great Khali took his humoungous hand and chopped Undertaker right on the head. Then to finish him off, the monster of a man nearly took the Phenom’s head off with a brutal boot. Then, to add insult to injury, The Great Khali pinned Undertaker by simply placing his foot on the Deadman’s chest for the victory.
Needless to say, The Great Khali’s manager Daivari was ecstatic after the match.
“All hail The Great Khali ?the man who slayed the Phenom,?said Daivari. “History was made at Judgment Day ?the day Undertaker finally met his match. Undertaker, rest in peace.?/FONT>
Before the match, Undertaker’s spirit was in question. If the Deadman’s spirit was broken before this match, how could it have survived this beating? The Great Khali destroyed a legend at Judgment Day, but will the Phenom really just rest in peace after such a defeat?
Rey Mysterio is the biggest underdog champion in sports-entertainment history. The fans know it, JBL knows it and even Rey knows it. But somehow, some way, even after being decimated for three straight weeks by Mark Henry, The Great Khali and Kane Rey Mysterio managed to pin JBL and continue to be an inspiration to fans everwhere as he retained the World Championship. Mysterio proved at Judgment Day that size does matter ?but it’s the size of your heart that counts the most.
Throughout the entire match, JBL bullied the World Champion, flaunting his size advantage. The United States Champion repeatedly slapped Mysterio in the face and busted him wide open, embarrassing him in front of several members of his family that were sitting ringside. But Mysterio endured it all and never gave up.
Mysterio looked to be gaining momentum after hitting a 619, but when he went for the West Coast Pop, the wily JBL pulled referee Nick Patrick in the way, forcing him to take the blow. The United States Champion went on the offensive, but after Rey kicked out of a powerbomb, JBL leveled referee Charles Robinson who took over the officiating duties.
Frustration consumed JBL as he went to the outside and grabbed a chair. But before he could use his weapon of choice, Mysterio kicked the steel chair into JBL’s face leaving him prone for the 619. Mysterio followed it up with a picturesque frog splash that surely made Eddie Guerrero proud, and pinned JBL to retain the World Championship. Mysterio once again overcame all odds, and his dream ride somehow continues. Chavo Guerrero, who was at the event to give Rey a pep talk before the match, came to the ring and celebrated with the World Champion, as both pointed upwards to the sky in memory of the late, great Eddie.
Mysterio is on Cloud 9 after his improbable victory, and WWE.com was able to catch up with the champ after his match.
“I proved me being champion is no fluke. I had fire in my heart,?said Mysterio. “JBL had disrespected me, my family and my people. This is what kept me going, making JBL pay. Every day’s a dream, and when it’s over, I’ll have no regrets. It’s been a helluva ride, but a ride I get to stay on for a bit longer.?/FONT>
