WWE RESULTS FOR CYBER SUNDAY-11-5-06

Almost a month ago, Umaga defeated Kane in a controversial Loser Leaves RAW Match. Since then, Kane has made his presence felt on SmackDown where his anger has been brewing.

At Cyber Sunday, WWE fans gave Kane his chance to exact revenge on his nemesis. The Cincinnati fans tore the roof off the US Bank Arena when they learned Kane would be Umaga’s opponent. After pulling in an overwhelming 49 percent of the votes from WWE fans, there was nobody more motivated to take down Umaga than Kane tonight.

However, Kane wasn’t able to capitalize on the opportunity. With a crushing blow, Umaga hit Kane with the devastating Samoan Spike for the victory. Is there no end to the Samoan Bulldozer’s undefeated streak?

Cryme Tyme steals Four Team Tag Match
By Andrew Rote
November 5, 2006

Coming out on top in Cyber Sunday’s second match of the night, Cryme Tyme proved that they belong among WWE’s elite. In the hands of WWE fans, the Four Team Tag Match would have one of the most brutal stipulations: Texas Tornado Match. All eight participants are legal at all times, meaning the chaos contained amounts to more trouble than taking Viscera out to dinner. Tags are unnecessary and Superstars go at it until somebody manages to get a pin or submission. Fifty percent of voters chose the specialty match.

After Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch hit their signature Sweet and Sour, Cryme Tyme swooped in to steal the victory when JTG covered Robbie McAllister for the three-count. Adding to their WWE stolen goods collection, Cryme Tyme robbed Jerry Lawler of his laptop, as well.

Cyber Success for Hardy
By Brett Hoffman
November 5, 2006

Coming into Cyber Sunday, Jeff Hardy was not in an enviable position. As the reigning Intercontinental Champion, he was forced to enter the ring to defend his gold without knowing who his opponent would be. The uncertainty and inability to strategize for the challenger has cost many in Jeff’s position before, but on this night, it was a different story.

There was much speculation as to who Hardy would face. Seconds after he entered the ring, it was revealed that his opponent was to be fellow fan-favorite and former Intercontinental Champion Carlito.

All day Sunday, WWE.com followed Jeff Hardy as he prepared for his unique match, and many second guessed his tactics. Carlito learned however that Jeff knew exactly what he was doing, because a Swanton Bomb secured the victory, and the retention of his beloved gold.

Bischoff creates controversy
By Zack Zeigler
November 5, 2006

Living up to his vow to be as controversial as his New York Times best seller Controversy Creates Cash, Eric Bischoff was the choice to referee the match between DX and Edge and Randy Orton. The former RAW GM, who pulled in 60 percent of the vote, was also the deciding “X-factor?in delivering DX their first loss as a tag team since reforming the rebellious group in June.

With some fans biting their nails in anticipation of the vote, the buzz filling the arena regarding whether Mr. McMahon, Jonathan Coachman or Bischoff would be voted in as the referee was deafening. When DX was on the Cyber Tron, loyal fans stood on chairs and made an X with their arms to show their support for Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

However, the three men in contention to mediate the match were hardly slated to be impartial. Mr. McMahon’s history with DX is known to be a hate-hate relationship ?especially after they shoved the WWE Chairman’s head into Big Show’s ass at Unforgiven. Mr. McMahon’s Executive Assistant, Jonathan Coachman, is staunchly in the boss?corner, and Bischoff’s actions on RAW (when he slipped a steel chair to Randy Orton in a singles match against Triple H) demonstrated which side he had taken. To the WWE fans?credit, Bischoff was the lesser of three evils to referee the match. Any other choice would have almost guaranteed a victory for Orton and Edge. Unfortunately, the best choice for DX wasn’t enough for them to overcome the odds.

Prior to the match, DX was as loose as ever and generally unfazed at who the referee might be. Amidst a casual conversation about who they should cast a last-minute vote for, Triple H mentioned Eric Bischoff’s statements from RAW, when he said that DX had no idea what the word “controversial?meant. HBK took it personally, and the former World Champion told The Game that he’d show Bischoff ?and all of WWE ?what controversy was. With that, he proceeded to give three WWE employees Sweet Chin Music as he stormed away in a fit of rage.

When Michaels and Triple H finally hit the ring, the DX fans were sent into a wild frenzy that shook the arena walls. The ovation DX received during their pre-match ritual salute to the fans had flashbulbs popping and was so loud The Game had to ask for silence before he could tell Edge and Orton to suck it.

While the Rated-R Superstar and the Legend Killer may have lived up to their vow to defeat DX and “kill?them at Cyber Sunday, one can argue that without the controversial actions of Bischoff, the match easily could have swayed in favor of DX. At one point, Bischoff seemed like he was going to call it down the line. Edge and Orton even voiced their anger towards Bischoff for giving fair pinfall counts. At one point it also looked like Bischoff would want to get revenge on Edge, after the Rated-R Superstar accidentally delivered a devastating Spear that knocked Bischoff out of the ring. Without a referee, DX picked up their game and began to dominate their opponents.

But in the end, the lure of controversy that has always been a magnet for Bischoff was no different at Cyber Sunday. With boos hailing from nearly every person in the arena as Bischoff climbed back into the ring, it was as if the WWE fans knew that Bischoff’s return meant bad news for DX. Smiling as Edge smashed HBK with a steel chair, Bischoff then watched Orton give Triple H his second RKO of the night onto the same unforgiving steel chair. It wasn’t supposed to be a No-Disqualification match; Bischoff simply chose to allow Edge and Orton to break rules and use the steel chair to screw DX for the victory.

After the match, Edge and Orton couldn’t wait to boast about their victory. Before the two ecstatic Superstars headed into a limousine to start their celebration, Orton told RAW commentator Todd Grisham, “DX has been trying to ruin my career for years. Well, look who’s laughing last??

Edge chimed in as well, telling Grisham, “It’s going to be a new era on RAW. An era that’s rated R…KO.?/FONT>

Champion again

At Unforgiven, Trish Stratus authored a storybook ending to the final chapter of a legendary career when she defeated Lita to win the WWE Women’s Championship.

Her victory and subsequent retirement led to the immediate vacancy of the title and a lengthy tournament to determine the successor to the gold. At Cyber Sunday, Lita and Mickie James met in the finals of that tournament, and the fans decided it would be a Diva Lumberjacks match.

The Diva jacks played two important roles in the match. The first role was that of enforcer, keeping Mickie and Lita in the ring at all times. The second role, and perhaps the most important was that of entertaining the fans at the U.S. Bank Arena with their sexy ensembles. They performed both tasks admirably.

Both James and Lita entered the ring as former Women’s Champions. At the end of the night however, only one left with the gold around their waist. That woman was Lita, who took advantage of Diva jack interference to take advantage for good. The fiery vixen used a modified DDT to finish off Mickie and capture her fourth WWE Women’s Championship.

Golden Legends
By Zack Zeigler
November 5, 2006

Leading up to Cyber Sunday, WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper had not held WWE gold since WrestleMania XIII in 1992. That all changed thanks to the WWE fans who chose Piper to team with Ric Flair to take on Mikey and Kenny of the World Tag Team Champions the Spirit Squad.

One of the biggest upsets at Cyber Sunday had just taken place and Flair and Piper had done something no other tag team has been able to do: unseat the Spirit Squad to claim tag team gold. In the match, Flair was able to lock Mikey in his signature Figure Four and get him to submit. For a moment ?when the Legends joined Piper and Flair in the ring to celebrate ?it was as if WWE was teleported back to the 1980s.

The loss couldn’t have made Kenny happy. Before the match, Kenny chided the other members of the Squad and declared himself the only winner of the five man ensemble. He also noted how they should have no problems defeating those “fossils.?Unfortunately, he wasn’t counting on Piper and Flair to have the resiliency to come up with a formula for victory.

By becoming the World Tag Team Champions, Flair and Piper not only showed the youthful Spirit Squad that experience can often overcome the age factor, but that the Legends still have fight left in them. In a show of camaraderie, Sgt. Slaughter and Rhodes came ringside to support Flair and Piper. After the stunning victory took place, Slaughter and Rhodes helped clear the Squad from the ring and joined their fellow Legends in celebration.

Sgt. Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes and Piper –three of the most celebrated Legends in WWE ?are held in high regard by WWE fans. Before the match, signs throughout the crowd read “Vote for Slaughter,?“I’m a Piper Voter?and “One more time for Dusty?displayed just how important the careers of these three Legends are to the history of sports-entertainment.

True champion of champions

Even though he unsuccessfully tried to forge alliances with his competitors behind their backs, King Booker would unknowingly get help from the most unlikely of candidates. In doing so, he was able to win the historic match and be crowned the Champion of Champions at Cyber Sunday.

Moments before the contest began, King Booker’s face showed his utter shock and disbelief when it was revealed that a whopping 67 percent of WWE and ECW fans voted for his World Heavyweight Championship to be on the line. In the history-making match against ECW World Champion Big Show and WWE Champion John Cena, King Booker was determined to come out on top, no matter what the fans had voted.

“It was a travesty of justice for my World Heavyweight Championship to be put on the line with a rouge such as Big Show and a peasant such as John Cena,?lamented Booker.

All three showed why they are champions as it was a fierce and combative bout. It looked like Cena was on his way to a victory as he was about to put an end to King Booker’s reign. Queen Sharmell came into the ring looking to use her King’s World Heavyweight Championship on Cena, but he saw her and gave the Queen a crippling FU. When the referee went to check on her, King Booker went after Cena, but again Cena was ready and caught him with the STFU. Booker cried out and it looked like Cena would be going home with two championships.

Then out of nowhere, rap artist and Cena’s recent adversary Kevin Federline ran into the ring and hit Cena with the World Heavyweight Championship. A stunned Cena went after K-Fed, but King Booker clocked Cena with a second shot, knocking the champ out cold. Booker ultimately covered Cena for the three-count to retain his gold.

As Cena lay motionless in the ring, K-Fed mocked him by doing Cena’s signature “You Can’t See Me?taunts over his defeated body. K-Fed was heard laughing and making fun of Cena on his way out of the arena and bragged to several that he would be on Monday Night RAW. While his motives are not known at this time, K-Fed’s Cena screw job comes on the heels of several weeks of each movie star/rapper trying to one up each other. However, costing the Dr. of Thuganomics the title goes well beyond anything either party has done to the other in the past. Much like the name of his new album, K-Fed is Playing with Fire.

Everyone is wondering if K-Fed will make good on his promise to show up Monday night on RAW and what he will do should he arrive.

King Booker, indignant about the help he received from Federline had a few words to say after the match.

“I assure you John Cena will pay and he will pay dearly for giving my Queen the FU. I vanquished Big Show. I vanquished John Cena and now I stand here before you: King Booker. King and ruler of the SmackDown kingdom and now the Champion of Champions.?/FONT>
