WWE RESULTS NEW YEARS REVOLUTION -01-07-07 Cena salutes the WWE fans after ending Umaga's undefeated streak Results:Champ ends the streak By Craig Tello January 7, 2007 Following a gritty, physical encounter, John Cena derailed the Samoan Bulldozer to not only retain the WWE Championship, but also serve Umaga his first defeat. The face of Armando Estrada told the story as WWE fans witnessed the end of the savage’s nine-month period without defeat ?care of the fighting WWE Champion. Just one year after one of the worst nights in Cena’s career, The Champ had the unenviable task of battling the Samoan Savage. Despite the size disadvantage, the WWE Champion battled head-on with Umaga and went blow-for-blow with the monster. Cena’s body may never have experienced so much bare-handed damage as he did at New Year’s Revolution. So much damage, in fact, that Cena’s attempt at hoisting Umaga for an FU resulted in his collapse and the challenger’s 348-pound body squashing the champion. The resilient Dr. of Thuganomics struggled to outpace his mammoth opponent, however, and as the WWE fans in St. Louis rallied behind Cena, he seemed to somehow draw adrenaline. The Champ’s offensive continued as he tossed his foe’s hardened forehead into the steel ring post and followed up with a Five Knuckle Shuffle. Again, Cena failed to execute the FU (for the second time) and Umaga seized control. The Samoan Bulldozer prepared to maim his weakened opponent as he lay helpless in the corner and charged at Cena. The champion managed to raise his feet and connect the soles of his Reebok Pumps into the solid jaw of the savage, allowing Cena to quickly roll up Umaga for the pin. As the WWE Champion celebrated with St. Louis fans ?his title tightly within his clutches ?the Samoan Bulldozer paced the ring like a wild animal, screaming in his foreign tongue. Umaga’s disbelief was shared by a livid Estrada who could not control the beastly Samoan as he then tore apart the remnants of the announce booth at ringside. Cena ended the savage’s tenure of wreckage that included victories over countless former World Champions such asTriple H, Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair. Following his victory, The Champ described his hellacious encounter to WWE.com reporters. "[Umaga] is the toughest challenge I have had to date,?Cena explained, “he’s just an absolute powerhouse. I have fought them all: Undertaker Big Show, Lashley, Kane, Batista. Umaga is not only big and powerful, but he is extremely agile. Rarely do you see that combination.?/FONT> Minutes after an explosive reception to Cena’s win, the triumphant WWE Champion expressed his devotion to his craft and the gold symbol around his chiseled waist. "I've never been one for stats, but I take great pride in this business and that WWE looks to me to carry this championship,?he said. “When you hold the WWE Championship, you're looked at in that position. This was a tough one, and the group of naysayers out there is slowly getting quieter." Results:Hardy rattles Nitro’s cage By Mike McAvennie January 7, 2007 After several months of the Intercontinental Championship changing hands between current champion Jeff Hardy and Johnny Nitro, it took the confines of a steel cage at New Year’s Revolution to perhaps forever close the door on the two Superstars?fierce rivalry. In fact, after a high-impact, seesaw battle, it took the cage door itself for Hardy to persevere over Nitro once again and retain his championship. Both the three-time Intercontinental Champion and the former two-time title holder (whose reign ended both times by Hardy’s hand) entered the 15-foot-high enclosure knowing they could win the match one of three ways: by pinfall, submission, or being the first to escape the cage. That meant either exiting through the front door or climbing over the top and having both feet touch the floor. Neither Hardy nor Nitro are strangers to living (and sometimes dying) in the high-risk zone, so it should come as no surprise that both Superstars tried gaining the advantage by resorting to top-rope dropkicks or sunset flips-turned-powerbombs off the top of the cage. Such high-impact maneuvers kept the Kemper Arena crowd standing on its feet from the onset of the match, with an overwhelming majority chanting Hardy’s name in support. Nitro’s biggest advocate, the primal screamer Melina, also made her presence felt several times throughout the contest, especially when she used her metal-studded belt to whack Hardy’s hands and keep him from climbing up top. The vicious assault allowed Nitro—who had been left hanging upside-down 15 feet in the air—to recover and almost climb out of the cage. Hardy proved just as resilient, however, forcing Nitro back in, then nearly grabbing the pinfall after a Swanton Bomb that practically shook the Kemper Arena. Nitro’s foot on the bottom rope stopped the referee’s three-count, while his instincts enabled him to block an attempted Twist of Fate off the top rope moments later. Nitro climbed up to the top of the cage once more, and this time he made it over. From the outside, Melina again inserted herself into the match, blocking the front door to prevent Jeff from exiting the cage. But as the referee outside moved the Diva away, Hardy dropkicked the door open just as Nitro began dropping down to the floor. Racking himself on top of the open door, there was no disguising the agony felt by the A-lister—not only from having the worst seat in the house, but watching Hardy, less than a few feet below, crawl outside the door and touch the floor, giving him a truly unbelievable win. An elated Hardy told WWE.com backstage how pleased he was with the outcome. “I’ve lost track of how many Steel Cage Matches I’ve been in,?he said, “but any match like this is my comfort zone, so I was calm going in. I always know in my mind that there’s a possibility of losing my title, but then I go in full throttle, to the max, and hope for the best.?/FONT> Inside the locker room, Melina tried consoling Nitro, who was still clearly in a great deal of pain. But the A-lister had only one thought on his mind: “Call Joey,?he told the Diva, referring to his MNM partner Joey Mercury. “The Hardys are gonna pay.? Results:Taking over the turmoil By Andrew Rote January 7, 2007 WWE fans were treated to a surprise bonus as Lilian Garcia announced a Tag Team Turmoil Match. Cryme Tyme stole the show and along with it, a chance at the World Tag Team Championship. Shad pinned Lance Cade after JTG hit him with a neck breaker in a match that pitted Cryme Tyme against Cade & Murdoch, the Highlanders, Super Crazy & Hacksaw Jim Duggan and the World’s Greatest Tag Team. In a Tag Team Turmoil Match, two teams start out in the ring. Once a member of one of the teams is defeated, another team replaces them in action. After all of the eliminations, JTG & Shad were the only two Superstars left standing. In the week before New Year's Revolution on Raw, Cryme Tyme teamed up with the Highlanders to defeat the World’s Greatest Tag Team with Cade & Murdoch. At the pay-per-view, the duo earned a chance to become World Tag Team Champions and prove to WWE fans that they are worthy of adding the titles to their bling. Results:Out with the old? By Noah Starr January 7, 2007 In the biggest singles match in his young career, 20-year-old Kenny Dykstra’s fierce determination served him well as he picked up a controversial win against the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. As the only Superstar in the now defunct Spirit Squad to defeat Ric Flair one-on-one, Dykstra certainly seemed to have Flair’s number, appearing at the Kemper Arena wearing a "Nature Boy-like" robe. After falling victim to a Con-Chair-To at the hands of Rated-RKO on last week’s Raw, WWE fans wondered if the 57- year-old Flair would be able to bring his A-game against Dykstra. By picking up the win at New Year’s Revolution, Kenny has begun to back up his previous claim that he is, “The future of Raw.?nbsp; WWE.com followed Kenny Dykstra all day as he prepared for his epic match. Dykstra’s strict regimen of physical conditioning seems to have paid off in his battle with one of WWE’s legends. After delivering an illegal low blow, Kenny rolled Flair up with a small package to secure the pin. With Dykstra representing the new school of talented and aggressive Superstars and Flair carrying the torch for the old school WWE legends, this rivalry will no doubt continue well into 2007. "The statement I made was that to be the man you’ve got to beat the man and I beat the man. Tonight, I showed why Kenny Dykstra is the new man.? Results:Beating the list, retaining the title By Craig Tello January 7, 2007 With some assistance of Divas that had been victimized by Victoria for weeks on Raw, Mickie James emerged from New Year’s Revolution with the Women’s Championship around her waist. Mickie managed to not only retain the gold, but also keep herself off the challenger’s checklist of fallen Raw Divas. “I feel awesome; I came out victorious,?a celebratory Mickie told WWE.com. “Victoria made too many enemies along the way to New Year’s Revolution instead of focusing on the Women’s Championship, and it backfired on her in the end.?/FONT> Earlier in the night, the challenger convinced Melina that she should form an alliance with Victoria, for Melina’s own good. By aligning herself with Victoria, Melina would get the first opportunity at the Women’s Title and keep herself off Victoria’s growing checklist ?a checklist that includes Maria, Torrie, Lilian and Candice. Melina made good on Victoria’s proposition and came to the ring to get involved in the contest between the Divas, both two-time Women’s Champions who have defeated the most celebrated Diva of all time, Trish Stratus. The fighting Women’s Champion endured Melina’s interference, but walked into Victoria’s dreaded Widow’s Peak. As the challenger held the champion over her head in preparation for a nasty drop, Maria and Candice came to ringside to even the odds. With the ring surrounded by the Sexiest Women on Television, Mickie countered the hold and minutes later, delivered a giant DDT for the victory. Standing over Victoria, Mickie celebrated with her defeated opponent’s former victims ?Candice, Maria and Lilian too ?as the Raw Divas enjoyed their evening in St. Louis. Results:Devastation By Brett Hoffman January 7, 2007 DX lived to their promise to break bones and rip flesh at New Year's Revolution. Earlier in the evening, Team Rated-RKO told Todd Grisham that they were going to put a “painful and definitive end?to D-Generation X. At the end of the night however, it was a completely different story as DX bloodied and battered their cocky opponents, shocking the Kemper Arena crowd en route to an unprecedented devastation of the World Tag Team Champions. Fighting a personal battle fueled by Rated-RKO’s tasteless and unforgivable actions toward DX’s friend Ric Flair, Triple H and HBK threw out the rulebook, and lived up to their promise to “break bones and rip flesh.? A potentially serious injury to Triple H couldn’t hold the legendary duo from accomplishing their goal of dismantling their hated rivals. After a brief flurry from the tag champs, DX used a barrage of Pedigrees, Steel Chairs, and a little Sweet Chin Music to incapacitate their opponents. Kansas City’s WWE fans roared in approval as blood leaked like a faucet from the foreheads and faces of Randy Orton and Edge. In the midst of all the chaos, Referee Marty Elias was caught in the crossfire. While the official word on the result was a no contest, the carnage around the ring and car-crash like imagery made it very clear that the battle, and maybe the war was won by D-Generation X. Dx made Randy Orton and Edge pay for all the bad things they have done to them and Ric Flair. Chris Masters defeated Carlito which I am sure we all figured this would happen.
