National Parks to Allow Right-to-Carry

Friday, December 05, 2008

Fairfax, Va. - The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, has announced the final amended version of its changes to rules on carrying of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. DOI’s move will restore the rights of law-abiding gun owners who wish to transport and carry firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, and will make federal law consistent with the state law in which these public lands are located. The National Rifle Association (NRA) led the effort to amend the existing policy regarding the carrying and transportation of firearms on these federal lands.

“Today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of the Interior brings clarity and uniformity for law-abiding gun owners visiting our national parks,?said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “We are pleased that the Interior Department recognizes the right of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves and their families while enjoying America's National Parks and wildlife refuges.?

DOI announced the rule change today and will publish the new regulations in the Federal Register. The new regulations allow right-to-carry permit holders to exercise their Second Amendment rights on national park and wildlife refuges in those states that recognize such permits. The move will provide consistency across our nation’s federal lands and put an end to the patchwork of regulations that governed different lands managed by different federal agencies. In the past, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands allowed the carrying of firearms, while lands managed by DOI did not.

The NRA has long held that amendments to those regulations were needed to reflect the changed legal situations with respect to state laws on carrying firearms. Earlier this year, fifty-one U.S. Senators sent a strong bipartisan letter to the DOI supporting the move to make state firearms laws applicable to national park lands and refuges.

“These changes respect the Second Amendment rights of honest citizens as they enjoy our public lands,?concluded Cox. “We applaud the Interior Department’s efforts to amend these out of date regulations.?

Only Illinois and Wisconsin sacrifice their citizens to criminals by being the only states in the US to forbid peaceful citizens from protecting their families.  These states have permanent 'open season' for the benefit of violent criminals.

Right-to-Carry 2008

There are 40 Right-to-Carry states. Thirty-six have “shall issue?laws, requiring that carry permits be issued to applicants who meet uniform standards established by the state legislature. Three have fairly-administered discretionary-issue carry permit systems. One, Vermont, respects the right to carry without a permit. Alaska, one of the “shall issue?states, has its permit system for the purpose of permit-reciprocity with other states, and also adopted a no-permit-required law in 2003.

?There are 10 non-RTC states. Eight have restrictively-administered discretionary-issue systems. Only two—Illinois and Wisconsin—have no permit system and prohibit carrying.

?The newest RTC states: In 2006, Nebraska’s RTC law was signed by Gov. Dave Heineman (R); Kansas?Senate and House overrode Gov. Kathleen Sebelius?(D) veto of an RTC bill by votes of 30-10 and 91-33, respectively; and the Ohio Senate and House overrode then-Gov. Bob Taft’s (R) veto of a bill that improves the state’s 2004 RTC law, by votes of 21-12 and 71-21, respectively.

It required 12 years and many millions of dollars of our donations, however, we now have the 'Shall Issue-Right To Carry' laws written into 40 state laws, and many have also placed words denoting firearms freedom into their Constitution.

It will be interesting to see if Obama attempts to eliminate freedom from our peaceful citizens, and if so, what the political cost to him in Congress will be.  We are already filling our warchest to unseat any member of Congress who opposes our liberty.

Car-to-car shooting leaves woman dead, children hurt

December 9, 2008

LOS ANGELES

Car-to-car shooting leaves woman dead

A 37-year-old mother was killed by gunfire from a passing car and her daughter and stepdaughter wounded Sunday evening as she was driving her family home in South Los Angeles, police said.

Stephanie Smith, 37, was in her car with her 13-year-old daughter, 15-year-old stepdaughter and 21-year-old son when the vehicle came under fire about 8:30 p.m. in the 500 block of West 102nd Street.

According to Los Angeles Police Department detectives, Smith and her family were near their home when a vehicle that was behind them passed her car on the driver's side. As it went by, someone in the car fired multiple shots at Smith and her passengers, striking her and the two girls. The gunman's vehicle then fled east.

Smith and her daughters were taken to a hospital where Smith was pronounced dead and the girls were treated for gunshot wounds. Both girls were listed in critical but stable condition Monday afternoon. Detectives say the son was unharmed.

Capt,

Buik.....what does that have to do with the lead topic?

It shows how ineffective our police are, and why each person is totally and solely responsible for their own safety.  Police simply displace crime from one location to another.

Hate to rain on your parade curm, but can you name a single pro-gun - or someone neutral on the subject that Obama has named to his administratiom?     We're in deep doo-doo, as all Obama needs to do is sign onto the UN's anti-gun program, or replace a retiring neutral Supreme with a gun-grabber, changing the 5 - 4 balance.    The Supremes have ruled that treaties can obviate our laws, and the UN wants every lawfully owned small-arm located and registered - the first step toward confiscation!

Government merging with and controlling a nation's finances and means of production is called fascism.       That's the road we're on.     Hang on: we're certainly living in those "interesting times" the Chinese spoke of.

Opar,

I know that you are mostly correct, and that most of the eighty million of us will be declared criminals because we will neither register nor turn in our guns.  We defied them in California, and we will naturally defy the Anti-American UN and its criminal management.  Strangely, it is a good feeling to know you are disobeying a bad law the government cannot enforce.

Do check which Justices might retire near term, and I believe you will find that Obama will be replacing Anti-Constitution liberals with more Anti-Constitution liberals.  Since Obama was elected gun sales have soared to new heights, our NRA membership is climbing rapidly as Americans prepare for the coming fight to keep their freedoms, and we now have the SCOTUS ruling that gun ownership is an individual freedom, liberty, and right.

The UN Treaty requires a two thirds majority to adopt it, and you need to remember we elected many Conservative Democrats who are Life NRA members.  Obama will no doubt try to erase American freedoms, however, we are also strong, and our strength is the people and their love of freedom.

Obama will progress farther on his effort to destroy our economy, and turn the US economy over to the UN.  My guess is that he will have advanced his plan such that our dollar will fully tank late next summer, and the markets will follow.

China will be hurt, since our people love their products and will have no valid funds with which to buy their output.

Just my opinion, and everyone has one.
