I!  Was born by a river,

in a dirty little shack.

When ma baby up and left me,

said she aint never coming back

 

Ooh! That river it ran deep,

and it ran wide.

And she caused my heart to flounder,

and destroyed, my foolish  pride.

 

Yes! She was a real good lady,

a real beaty to me.

I gave that woman evrything,

that a man ever aspired to be.

 

 

Now! I left that lonesome river,

rolling on down to the sea.

there ain't no use crying tears,

over love that would never be.

 

 

I!  Was born by a river,

in a dirty little shack.

But like that rushing water

I aint ever drifting back
